Rick's Cafe and Dunn's River Falls

Recommended Posts

Hi!!!

I am starting to plan my agenda for my guests and wanted opinions on Rick's Cafe and Dunn's River Falls. Give me all the details you know - prices, how do you get there from your hotel, is there a seperate fee for transportation, is it fun, is it for people over the age of 50, and etc.

Any information will help me and my guests to pick the right excursion!!!

Thank you!

Candace

Rick's Cafe .. we went at about 530ish to catch the sunset...it was about 20 mins from the Riu Palace Tropical Bay and it was packed to the gills with people trying to see the sunset ... there was a reggae band wrapping up ... and as soon as the sun set it cleared out ..... alot of the tour groups are there in the afternoon to watch the cliff divers ...they also have a pool with cabanas around the side you can rent for the afternoon ...there is also an umbrella table/chairs in the pool kinda neat .. its really nice I guess you have to decide what you are going for .. the sunset views or to actually chill off the resort ..the food is just ok if you ask me .. but the drinks were excellente lol ... I'm not sure how I would feel with little kids b/c you were literally on the cliff ... I was alittle nervous myself we went and sat on the 2nd floor of the restaurant .... I dont think we paid anything to get in

Dunns River Falls is actually far from Negril ..like an 1-2 hours on the other side of Mo Bay Airport .. You should look into YS or Mayfield Falls ...they are similar to Dunns River but not as far ...

Also ... There is a Margaritavilla in Negril ..just a few minutes from the RTB

I know that Dunn's River Falls will be like 3 hours away, so that may be a really long bus ride. We went there in 2008 and our group had lots of fun. I couldn't climb the falls because of a knee injury, but everyone else enjoyed it. Ages ran from 20-70 year olds.

I'll have to google Mayfield falls when I log off! We are staying in Negril for our DW and when our guests leave, we are going to Sandals Ochos Rios. So, we will wait to go to Dunns Falls when we are at Sandals, because it's closer. But, that will be cool if we can go somewhere closer in Negril with our guests!

I def. wanna go to Ricks Cafe! Does anyone know what you have to do to reserve a cabana there? Do you do it when you get there, or can you do it ahead of time? Just wondering.

I'm not sure yet if I want to do this with just my FI or with our guests( parents, my best friend and my 8 yr. old) I would want to do it well before dinnertime/ sunset to be able to enjoy the music and atmosphere (and drinks).

I know they have "the wild thing" catamaran, etc... that goes there in a tour. Did anyone go in a taxi, etc or do it as part of a tour? We're staying at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay.

We took a taxi from RTB .... I believe it was $40 from the hotel to Ricks if you used the taxi stand in the hotel lobby front ... BUT the key is to use a private driver the whole trip ....they will come back and forth and get you ..and you won't pay 1/2 as much ... basically when you get up in the am ..call your driver and tell him what time you want to go and to where.. he'll be out front the hotel ... we used him also for the airport transfers ..

I cant think of his name to save my life .. but I found him on tripadvisor by referrals

*added* Kenny Jamaica is who I used

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
