Is it true that July 4th is an election day in Mexico and they do not sell alcohol? My BM just called to let me know that she was chatting with her friend about my wedding. She told her that she's been to Mexico twice around that time and that they do not sell alcohol on this day.
I'm partially freaking out, but since we are paying a corkage fee and purchasing our own bottles, I don't think there should be a problem. But either way, my WC did not mention anything.
I know when I went to Puerto Rico, this did happen on thier election day. So I hate to say this ladies, I think this somehting to keep in mind when you are choosing your date, ugh!

Amy... Oh my. I did some googling and found this...
Does everything in Mexico close for the presidential elections this July?
I'm planning a trip to Mexico City and the last time I was there for an election it was a holiday and no alcohol could be served 24 hours prior to the big day. Is it still like th is? If so, I'll put off my vacation for a week or so.
Answer - Chosen By Voters
There is a law in Mexico - popularly referred to as
"Ley Seca"(dry law) - that prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages Election Day and the day before. However, it is up to businesses to remain open or closed.
Presidential elections are always held on Sunday. So it is probable that some business are closed that day, but because they close on Sundays anyway.

Ok I am now officially freaking out also. Wouldn't hotels lose money if they couldn't serve alcohol though? But I guess if its a law, its a law. Uggh this is so annoying. This is just like the time I went to Paris and the mass transportation workers went on strike and by the time I got to the airport I was not allowed on the plane and I had to stay in a shady hotel.

Ok I just asked a guy who's very active in politics and he told me federal elections are going to be the first sunday in July, which means they're on July 6th.. so don't worry girls!!

Most, if not all resorts down there still serve alcohol on Election days. I have been down there during that time and the beer and booze was still flowing at the resorts. Restaurants and bars off site are a different story though.

Just wanted to make sure that was what you meant so that everyone has the right date. I freaked out because we have plans for the night of the 6th which would be ruined if that was the no alcohol day.
