You need to be certified to do caves and night diving and anything below about 40-50 ft and to do ship wrecks! That's why I want us to get certified:) I don't know if we can afford it w/the wedding and all. But, since i'm the budget keeper, I'll do my best to make it happen. If not me, he deffinitely deserves it!

I don't know if I understand what the mayan calendar is, could you explain? sounds cool
The mayans didn't use the latin alphabet like we do and had a different system of notation to write down dates and such. They also used a different calendar system to mark the passage of time. Here's a link that can probably better explain it than I can. FREE Maya Calendar information from the Maya World Studies Center

Most of them require you to show your certification and to have a master diver certified for cave diving leading your group. It can be very dangerous down there and people die sometimes due to inexperience of themselves or their guide.

really, the only reason I didn't think you did is because I know this older couple that did the cenotes and I don't picture them as being certified in diving, I could be wrong, but I really don't think they are. But if thats the case we probably won't do it, I don't think we'll have time or money to get certified before we go or while we're there.

To do cave diving you need (and probably should be) certified. Some of the cenotes do not have underwater access to cave systems and you might be able to dive in those ones. Not sure though. Everyone I have talked to about cave diving says it is quite the experience. You need the training for being in an environment where daylight is not able to be seen, and the training of how to not freak out in a tight cave 100 feet below ground.
