Default Charity Registries

Hi ladies,

So this past weekend, Eric and I set up our registries.

We had decided that we didn't want gifts because everyone would have to pay so much to travel to Mexico, and, we're living in a tiny flat in London, but not sure how long for, probably moving back to the states in a year or so... so accumulating lots of stuff is a pain -- not to mention the fact that we've both lived on our own for a long time, so we have everything we need.

But, for those people that still want to give, we decided to do charity registries, we registered at:

Donate Money to Charity - Charitable Giving - Donation - Give to Charity which is a list of charities you can keep as your registry for people to make donations to

and then

ChangingThePresent which is actually more like a real registry, you pick items and people buy them.

We are really pleased with this idea, because we are really serious about not wanting gifts, and think this is a lovely way for people to spend their money if they want to.

Problem is -- people keep telling us we HAVE to register, that people are going to buy us gifts no matter what we do, so we should register in order to avoid getting crap. But, I think if we register, that's sending mixed messages, adn then the people that would be okay with not getting us stuff, will feel like they have to get us stuff.

What do you think?

Default Re: Charity Registries

I like the idea of a charity registery! We didn't want to register either, but as you stated, people want to buy you things regardless of what you tell them. We went ahead and registered to avoid getting "crap" also.

We too like the idea of charity for our registry. We are most likely going to register with Heifer. We are also going the traditional registry. Only b/c everyone keeps asking. No choice.
