Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone else has seen the latest news on travel alerts on traveling to Mexico. Now universities are warning spring breakers to NOT travel this year due to the increase in violence. They are even stating not to travel to Cancun/Riviera Maya!! This has me a little worried. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were.

Here's a link to the U.S. Department of State Travel advisory:

MIG: Mexico Travel Alert

although this article I just found states something different for the big tourist areas.

I have been a bit worried about this also. There is always a risk when traveling or doing anything really BUT the thought of anything happening to people who only traveled because of me and FI really worries me. I am hoping that most people will stay at the resort. I am even rethinking planning an excursion for our guest.

Totally agree! I just shot two weddings in mexico over the last 4 weeks, and I couldn't have felt more safe. The tourist areas are doing just fine. relax. enjoy it like a corona commercial :)

Ladies and Gents.

Mexico is NOT unsafe. It is EXACTLY the same as traveling anywhere else. There is crime and danger if you put yourself in questionable or illegal circumstances. I have travelled there as a tourist many times, and actually lived there this summer- traveling all over the country.

If I can take the subway in Mexico City after midnight, you can drink Margaritas in downtown Cabo, PV, Cancun... wherever.

Sit back and enjoy.

I'm not worried about it, but I don't want my guests to start worrying about it...and of course today I get an e-mail from my sisters best friend, who isn't even coming to the wedding, but is a total nervene..With a link about the spring breakers warning. She sent it to me and my sister. It's like, Your not even coming to the Wedding, Mind your business!!

I have no idea why this pissed me off, but it did.

We will be in the resort 90% of the time..I only plan to venture off to the bars/clubs area one night.

Do you think I should include this in my Pre-Traval newsletter to maybe ease any fears my guests may havehuh.gif

I got a lot of e mails from guests ready to book as well. They did a special on tv I guess yesterday talking about violence and saying it is the worst mexico has ever seen and warned people not to go...I didn't see it. I have people coming with small children so they are concerned. I am afraid people won't comehuh.gif??

I received a call today from my cousin regarding this and of course she has 3 kids and is worried. I told her that I can not worry myself about this right now...my wedding is in 3 months and in Cancun which is not close to the border. I told her that I am going to pray about and keep on moving. Again, there is violence anywhere you go. I am glad to see that others are thinking the same way

We got married 3 weeks ago in Riveria Maya. I do have to say that you know there is something going on. On the main road there are "speed bumps" that are so big cars have to go less than 5 miles an hour over them or our car will get all messed up. At these speed bumps there are a handfull of military with machine guns and the whole nine yards. You drive past these anywhere you go. I guess they are looking for young kids driving beat up cars. They are looking for cocaine dealers.

The night we went to our rehearsal dinner in Playa del Carmen there was a massive shooting at the stop we went by everyday and went by twice that day. It was in the news here. The police chief was shot while he was patroling this stop. Two people pulled up in the middle of the day and shot him in the middle of the street. The people who shot him where part of the police.

During our wedding three military men with machine guns and everything walked right in front of us. They patrol the coast now everyday. It was kind of scary. I have a picture of them but Im not sure how to post pictures yet. You can definatley see that it is a different country and you are not at home. I wouldnt say that I felt unsafe but I definatly missed the comfort of home alittle. These people live in a place where the military and police arent on the same page, add in the drug dealers and also the fact that most of the law enforcement are "dirty". You will feel alittle uneasy when you see these things though. The good thing is that the resorts for the most part are so well gaurded that you can stay there the whole time.
