Kids or No Kids?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some guidance for inviting or not inviting children to my wedding in Mexico. My brother has 2 small children and there are some young cousins that are in the 8-12 year range. My thinking right now is that I would prefer for children not to attend. We're trying to keep our guest list small, inviting only parents, grandparents, and aunts & uncles. Is it wrong of me not to include my niece/nephew and the younger cousins, especially with the distance their parents would have to travel? For those of you with kids, would you enjoy this weekend away or stress about your children at home? Thanks in advance!

Ultimately it is up to you. However, keep in mind, that some people will not want to (or be able to) come if they can't bring their kids. I toyed with the idea for awhile, but ultimately allowed kids--but it looks like we are only having 2 come. Seems like a lot of parents (in my case) are looking at my wedding as a second honeymoon! :) Of course, if you have your heart set on a resort that doesn't allow children, I would stick with the venue.

I completely understand your delima. But I do think it is ultimately up to you. Perhaps a resort that also has a sister resort that allows children. We are most likely doing adults only, upon doing an initial poll with everyone, most of the folks that will be coming that have children are using this as a getaway. The others are not able to come due to the expense. So we will most likely have a reception/party when we get back for everyone that could not attend the wedding.

It's kind of hard to say. On one hand you have people who may not be able to find sitters, or if the kids are school age, can't find someone to take them to and from school while they are out so they may treat this as a family vacation.

If you do an adults only hotel, those that come with kids may have to stay at a different hotel; in that case they may have to purchase day passes in order to attend and then who will pay for that?

I know - lots to consider, but I hope this helps!

Think about who you absolutely want at your wedding. If any of those people have young children, they may not be able to travel to a destination wedding without them. That being said... We invited people with their children. We have our responses back now and here is where we are: Some guests are bringing their children to the wedding. One guest is bringing her nanny along on the trip, so the child will be on the trip, but not at the wedding. Two other guests have told me they plan on hiring one of the resort's nannies to stay with the children in their guest room during the wedding.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
