Black Tungsten- good or bad??

Recommended Posts

Hey.

My FI is interested in the black tungsten wedding bands, Like this on:

Black Tungsten Rings & Bands

Our jewler that sold us the E -ring did not seem to have good things to say bout tungsten and had no info on the black tungsten.

Does anyone have any info good or bad on black tungsten?

Side note: a lot of the websites have lifetime guarantees , so they must "last".

The jeweler probably doesn't like Tungsten because it is not as expensive as their platinum bands :)

I have a titanium and a tungsten band. What I heard when I was shopping is that they are so strong that if you have an accident and break your finger or it swells up then the hospital has to have a special tool or a laser to cut the band off, and you may be out of luck. However, Snopes says that is false, so I think you are good to go: snopes.com: Titanium Wedding Rings

I just did a search on Tungsten and Titanium mens bands. Everything I read had pros and cons.

Biggest Pro was that they are very sturdy and most people are not allergic to them like golds.

Biggest Con and this was on every site I read, even ones that specialized in the rings said that they cannot be made smaller and can only be made a tad bit larger and they is by changing the thickness giving more room for the finger. They all also said it takes special tools to get it off.

I have heard that some rings are made with a 'weak' spot which makes them easier to get off.

I love the look of them and the cost of them, but after researching I am a bit apprehensive about buying one. Most likely you will never have to have you ring cut off but..you never know.

Even if you were to buy another metal and your finger swelled up - the hospital would most likely just cut whatever ring you had on, off. That's what we do anyway.

My guy bought a Tungsten ring - our insurance covers "sizing up or down" so getting a whole new ring if he needs.

idk about black tungsten, but my hubby has black titanium, and its not really black. the black color scratches off fairly easily. its just some sort of treatment. if your fi works in manual or hard labor, i would advise against getting black if the black of the tungsten is similar to the black on the titanium.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
