For family that has passed away

Recommended Posts

Hi girls! I want to do something to honor my family members that have passed on. My mom passed away when I was 8 and my grandparents raised me. My grandfather passed when I was 16 and my grandmother when I was 21. I'm 32 now so it's been some time but I still feel sad knowing that they won't physically be at my wedding - although I know they will be there is spirit. I want to say a few words about them (not sure what yet). I just read on another thread that someone saw people release butterflys after saying a few words about family that has passed away. I think that's a beautiful idea although I'm not sure how I would go about getting butterflys to the Mexican resort. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much girls!

Definitely do a search & you'll find threads where this has been discussed. BDW brides have used a memory candle & someone did DIY memory candles & was able to put their loved one's picture on it. Another did a bouquet jewel such as a mini picture frame with a picture of the person.
If you are going to have a ceremony program printed, you could even put a section in there where you remember your loved ones & then just say a few words about them.
Those are just a few ideas that I've seen here on BDW.

Thanks girls! I searched the forum and found a beautiful poem someone had for their father that passed away. I'm going to decide what to do with...I'm not sure I could read that and not just start crying uncontrollably! I wasn't going to do a program but now I may just put a nice thank you note for the guest with this poem added at the bottom. Thanks so much!

Hi Mandalabay...would you mind sharing the poem you found? I'd like to put a poem in our program in honour of my FI's sister who passed away and think this would be a nice way to include her in our special day. Thanks!

Here you go -

I"m going to change the word "him" to "them" since I'll be referring to my mom and grandparents but you get the idea. Thanks for the all the help with this topic. I truly appreciate it!!

Dear Lord please clear a spot for him:

he should have the perfect view.

His little girl's a Bride today,

and I am counting on you.

Let me feel his presence;

as I journey down the isle.

But let me notice his abscence;

if only for a while.

Let me stop to think of him;

As I am given away.

And know that if he could;

he would be here with me today.

Dear Lord please clear a spot for him;

he should have the perfect view.

And if he should get sad today;

Dear Lord I count on you.

Hi all - I wanted to remember my grandparents that had passed away in years gone by and in my heart I wanted to do something so that they could 'find me' on my special day. I had my bouquet made up all in one color with the exception of 3 yellow roses which were each in memory of one of my grandparents. I didn't tell everyone except the people that I knew it would mean alot too....it was a nice subtle way of remembering them on that day in my life.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
