Translation of documents - HELP!

Does anyone know how to go about getting these translations?? I don't even know what a declaration of single status is...?? It's required for a civil ceremony at the Majestic Elegance. Do all resorts require this?

 

 

Photocopy of birth certificate and translation into Spanish

Photocopy of passport of the couple and of the witnesses *

Declaration of single status, translated into Spanish and notarized

Original divorce decree translated into Spanish and legalized

 

Documents need to be translated and legalized by the Dominican embassy,

*Passports don’t need to be legalized or translated. Just copy of them are needed

Yes...unfortunately all resorts require this!!
You can contact the Dominican consulate closest to you for instructions!
If it's close enough that you can go there personally, then it is best to do that. You can leave with all the docs you need in your hand!! At least that's what we can do here in Toronto!
I've heard that using the services like "we do" is not a good idea...but I can't really remember why!! But I think lots of people do!!

Just another option to save money and the hassle. Try to consider going to your courthouse and have a civil ceremony before you leave for your wedding ceremony in the Dominican Republic. It is much cheaper because if you send your documents to the consulate or WEDO, you will have to pay for each document to be translated. Oh yeah don't forget, when you recieve your marriage license from the DR that will have to be translated into english and that will cost also. Just something to consider.

I know laws vary from state to state, but in SC, a Notary Public can marry you - so since we have a friend who is a Notary, she met us at a friends house and all we did - literally - was sign the marriage license. No vows, etc - so our DR was our only "wedding" and we are so glad we did it that way in order to avoid the translation hassles and extra money for the legal ceremony in the DR - not to mention the waiting period upon our return home. We only had 30 days to add me to DH's insurance, and that would not have been possible if we did the legal documentation in the DR.

Hey Tami...I'm kind of leaning towards this...I don't want to have to wait 3-6 mths for a marriage certificate! Do you know if you can do the opposite?? Go to your DW (but not really wedding!) and then come back & sign papers?? I guess it would be more like a "love ceremony" instead of wedding or renewal of vows!

I just got my papers back from WEDO.com.do it was really easy and only $240. Not bad I heard prices a lot worse.

If we did the legal marriage first we would need nothing but the marriage certificate though right?? No docs translated, etc. Would we still have to pay for the judge down there to do the renewal?? This is something to look in to. But I just don't think I'd feel the same...I'd love for us to look at each other during the ceremony on the clifftop & know that we becoming man & wife...other than that I feel that it's just a "show". Lovely, more decisions!! I thought this DW thing was supposed to be easy!! LOL
