How do you take all the stuff for the wedding to your destination?

Recommended Posts

Everybody has such great ideas for their weddings, but how the heck do youtake all that stuff with you to your destination? I am starting to plan the details for my wedding and I have so many ideas and things I want to make, buy, take with but I don't know how to get it to Mexico. Especially now that lots of airlines are charging fo extra baggages. Do you ship things ahead of time? Isn't it costly? I am stumped!smile43.gif

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there,

I beleive that if you are going to send stuff down there ahead of time you will need to allow yourself extra extra time. I read somewhere that you should hire a "customs broker"....they assist with customs procedures and how to handle taxes. To me it sounds like a lot of work with too much worry involved that things may not make it there in time. Or they could get there too early and get mishandled and lost in the shuffle. I have decided to just carry it all down there with me. I plan on doing a dry run of how I will pack beforehand. Most fragiles will go in my carry on. That way if it breaks I know that it was my fault not the airlines. As for my OOT bags, I am buying the snacks, toiletries, and first aid nick nacks when I get there, I read up that there is a Walmart nearby my hotel destination. Hope this was somewhat useful.

We went for a site visit earlier this month and took down our centrepieces (two boxes that we carried on!). Everything else is going with us in two huge suitcases - check with your airline to ensure that you are not way over your baggage limits (although most you can pay per extra bag!)

My mom is coming to visit in a few weeks & I am sending a bunch of things back to my home town with her. She is going to give a little bit to each of my guests (inc. my MOH) so that they can take it for me! I'm just hoping that I have everything in time!!!

Another option is to ship things directly to your mom/MOH/BMs/etc. when you order things online!

Good Luck!!

I was just reading that you are going to buy your stuff down there, great idea! I am doing half and half but wish I would have done more down there! I was thinking that you could make labels for things at home beofre you leave... lots of girls put a label around chapstick and made it their own, you could make a label to stick on a baggie with first aid, etc. Just an idea!

As for me, I am trying to keep it simple... but bringing everything with me so far. I am having my mom and sisters all take something in their bags... and if they have an extra bag I'll pay for it... I am also using duffel bags for the unbreakables, they can be packed in the suitcase on the way home that way I am only paying one way~

I have a bunch of stuff since I am working on table runners and all my flowers are fake.... My OOT bags are all being given out the days before to the local people and then I making everyone take something with them on that day ... flowers, runners, raffia fans, and what not. Another good thing on my part is that my son is only 6 and we can use his checked bag just for all the stuff I am bringing down. All his clothes can fit into his carry on. YAY

I am so lucky that my W.C is in the states visiting family so I'm shipping her a box of stuff that she will bring back with her. Which reminds me, that box needs to go out today! She had told me that shipping things to Mexico can be a nightmare, pricey and can take forever to get there. I didn't want to take the chance of it getting lost either.

Then I'm giving some stuff to bridesmaids to bring down with them and we are buying some things there (like snacks for the oot bags). And like someone else said, we also handed out our wedding party gifts a few weeks ago.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
