I really don't understand how people are able to get hundreds of thousands of points and still go to work all day, cook dinner, clean house, do laundry, etc. I mean, I am on here posting and replying and telling all the new girls how wonderful their experiences are going to be... and meanwhile, I have like 100 points! Don't you see that I'm on here at 5AM? Some people are BUSY! I had no idea that downloads hurt the server, maybe THAT'S what you should have written in the first place.
And just so you know, no matter how many times I post a picture in my signature to earn points, it DOESN'T SHOW UP! I know I'm doing it right because I had it on there before... Everything on the knot works just fine... I cannot believe I joined a forum to get and share ideas and I'm winding up being paranoid about points?!
Now that I've completely wasted what might be my only free time of the day.... | I am a moderator of this forum, I work, on average at least 50 hours a week (but oftentimes more in the 60 range) at my day job without taking a lunch break away from my desk, AND am an adjunct faculty member at a local university where I teach a night class....then I have to grade papers and quizzes and homework on my own time. I have a husband at home, chores to keep up with and social obligations to fulfill with family and friends.
You are NOT the only member of this forum who has a busy life. You are the one who singled yourself out here. And let me point out that if you are having so much trouble with your siggy pic or other things, you could have contacted a moderator to look into helping you solve the problem.
You are a member of this wonderful forum which has a wealth of knowledge available to you, does not cost you even a DIME, and you did not even take the time to read all the "welcome to the forum, here's how stuff here works" posts available to you, yet here you are bitching about not knowing how it works. Your attitude is unnecessary and if you do not like the way this forum works, you are welcome to go back to the knot. The knot is run with corporate funds; this forum is not. In order to keep it free, there has to be rules in order to not overload the server. This is a community where, just like with anything else in life, you have to earn some of the priviledges. Downloading templates is a priviledge and not a right. You earn one point for every thread you read, 5 points for every response to someone else's thread, and 15 points for starting your own thread. All you have to do to earn points is PARTICIPATE.

Now that I've completely wasted what might be my only free time of the day.... | Settle down, sharp shooter. No one was talking about you, or at least not until you went on your rant. Maura said what I wanted to say, but I need to add that I am also a busy member of society and do not sit around on this forum all day "wasting my time." I am a software consultant that worked 40-80 hours a week, and now am a stay-at-home mom to a 4 month old baby. Neither of which jobs are easy.
As Maura poitned out, you could take the time to read the instructions that were generously written up and provided to you when you joined, or you could contine to whine and complain. I'd suggest the first option. And actually, the reason behind the points (managing the load on the server) was discussed at length in many of the "how to" threads in this forum. If you still have a legitimate question or are having trouble understanding something, don't hesitate to ask. However, I'd advise you to make an effort to understand how this forum is run before critisizing it again.

I also want to add that I understand the excitement of coming to a forum with soo much information dedicated to a DW. You don't really find that anywhere else- even at the knot. However, I really don't understand the need to download EVERYTHING. When you come across ideas you like, you can right click on pictures and save that to an ideas folder- that doesn't cost points. You then can subscribe to the thread in which the template is hosted and keep it in a "templates to download" folder. Then you can wait the months until you are really at the point when you need to get your projects done and determine which template you really need. You don't need them all. I don't understand the rush to download EVERY template you come across. If you are a year out from your wedding, is there really a rush to download cute menu templates or program templates. Trust me- all that information will change. I'd suggest starting ANY of those projects until the later months.
STDs and invites are something you do early- but again, why not decide which std or invite you like and download that template at the time you are ready to use it.
I really don't understand the unneccessary attitude about the points either. We all started in the same position. Most of us decided to have a different attitude and tried to participate in the forum rather than complaining that the forum isn't handing them everything they want and desire for free. If you really want to come on the forum and act like an ass, then I don't think you deserve to download ANYTHING. Maybe that's a good reason for the point system as well- we can weed out the bad apples.

i... - run this forum.
- run a business.
- am helping about 40 other brides plan their wedding.
- have a 1 year old child.
- i cook.
- i clean.
- i am rebuilding a house.
- i have tenants that i have to deal with when issues arise.
- and have to deal with newbies whining about not having enough points.
- and also deal with members complaining that the forum is running slowly because of the downloads.
We are ALL busy. you get from this forum what you put into this forum.
it is pretty simple.
if you have a problem with that, then this forum is not for you.

I'd just like to say that I am also a new member of this forum and understand how frustrating it is in the beginning to be excited about all the ideas available here and not be able to access them. However, I knew the basic rules when I joined...still learning as I go too. Like a LOT of other people here, I am also very busy, working 60-70 hours a week. I've tried to use up my points wisely and only downloaded stuff I really needed. The rest, I have been saving as favourites to use at a later time when I'm able to.
People in the forum have been very supportive and generous with their ideas and I have enjoyed being a member for those very reasons. It's a real shame that you felt the need to post what you did and really gained nothing from it in the end. The forum really doesn't need that kind of negativity. Sorry if I'm contributing to that by posting this, but I just needed to share my opinion.
