I was just wondering... I'm at the 6 month mark - where should I be in my DIY projects?
I feel like I have all these great ideas, but I am stuck trying to sort through them and I think it's because of lack of resources... I don't know where to find 1/2 the stuff I want to make. Michaels and AC Moore are just not cutting it anymore. I really want to do pocketfold invitations - but where do I get paper big enough to make them? I want to start making up my OOT bags, but is it too early?
Girls, I need help |

Should I trust websites to order paper?

I used websites to order my paper. Archivers has a lot of paper choices. I started on my oot bags pretty early. It's easy to buy stuff when you find it on sale. I don't know if you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, but they have a lot of stuff you my need. I started my invites in February and they were finished by May. If there are things you can complete that don't require a final head count, then I would do those first.

For pocketfolders, the most popular are Cards & Pockets, evelopments (various vendors sell these) and Card Stock, Vellum Paper, Envelopes, Metallic Cardstock, Invitation Cards & Specialty Wedding Stationery - Paperandmore.com just started carrying pocketfolders in a limited color supply(but the ones they sell are the cheapest I have seen aroundd)...
I use Card Stock, Vellum Paper, Envelopes, Metallic Cardstock, Invitation Cards & Specialty Wedding Stationery - Paperandmore.com for all the paper I buy. I know there are other options out there, but I am biased... :)
Maybe you should start with a list of all the DIY projects you want to do and then figure out if you need to speed it up?

I got paper products from paperpresentation.com and papersource.com I didn't have a problem ordering from either of them.
We started the invites about 6 months out. I started buying items for the OOT bags about 9 months out. I'm less than 2 months out and haven't put the bags together yet, i'll probably do that by the end of this month (i'm handing my bags out before we leave for Punta Cana). I really didn't start a lot of my projects until around the 5 month mark. I know have a lot to do and still have projects to do so i wish i started earlier.
I hope this helps...

Girls, thank you so much! My bathroom renovation was officially completed yesterday, so I think this might help me get some of my projects moving. I am going to make myself a list, first (thanks to Bianca) and go from there. I will update you guys on this thread as my projects progress.
Danielle, I see you live in Jersey - I'm in Queens. Have you ever been to the paper presentation store in Union Sq (in the city - obviously)? I hear it's great, I just haven't had the opportunity to get there yet.
Ladies, you're the best...

For the OOT bags really make sure you know a head count before you buy a bunch of stuff. I know a lot of girls here bought a ton of stuff then only needed half of it. I made a list of everything I wanted to put in them then waited until about two months out to go buy the stuff. I still had a little extra but not too bad. The invites I sent out about two months out. I would start making them as soon as you can though. They can be tricky! Of course I suck at the whole DIY thing and ended up having someone else make them for me!

I am about 6.5 mos out and all I have done is purchased the OOT bags (as I am taking them down on my site visit in December) and a limited quantity (20) of what goes in them. I found that it takes up less space to leave things in their packaging versus separating it all out and filling the OOT bag for travel so I am goign to assemble there on my site visit.
Only other thing I have done is wrap 36 fans (but now I think I am goign to need 10 more, but that can wait for final head count). I am finishing the logo this week (friend is trying to tweak the colors so when it prints it matches the ribbon perfectly, versus what we see on the screen). Once this is complete I can work on name tags, luggage tags, welcome brochures most importantly invites. So, that is my task for October. Good Luck! Dont' forget to have a wine DIY party with your girlfriends (mine are all mad at me that I have not enlisted their help, so when the logo is done...boy will they be sorry!)
