Default Re: $700 Vet bill :(

Dental stuff is always expensive, but I would definitely get a second opinion.

I've considered pet insurance - especially for my new puppy who is a Newfoundland. But, we decided against it. For the Newf, it was going to be about $350/yr, which is way more than I spend on average in vet bills. Would it help for an emergency, or if the dog developed a long term illness - of course. My other dog had 1 expensive near miss with a bottle of Advil when she was a puppy. Even with that, I don't think the $350/yr would've payed off in the end.

I think I'll wait to hear what my knowledgeable pet friend says and who else she might recommend:)

Thankfully, I do have insurance for him. I tried to figure out how much they will reimburse me and I think it will be around $200 depending on the diagnosis (I forget exactly what she said it was). I tell you, times likes these is why I got it in the first place:)

I have fantastic pet insurance for my dogs....

Pet Insurance for your Dog or Cat - PetCare Pet Insurance

I have 100% coverage. My Cavalier had a ruptured anal gland last year and needed surgery. The bill was around $375. I submitted a claim and got a $325 check from the insurance company (all they subtracted was the deductible).

Wow...it definitely depends on where you are located, because I have paid close to $800 in the past for our dogs teeth to be cleaned, tooth extracted.

Hello ladies.

Just wanted to give you an update. We had Tishka's teeth pulled last Thursday. He wound up having 5 teeth extracted; the 4 canines and 1 other one the vet felt needed to come out. All in all, with bloodwork, anesthetia, meds, cleaning, etc. I wound up paying $622. Right smack in the middle of what she quoted me:)

I was a nervous wreck on the day of the surgery but am happy to report that he is doing very well and the first thing he did when he came home was demand food! :) LOL I guess that's good sign. It's funny but, his temperment seems a lot more pleasant. Even hubby notices! Go figure, maybe the canines have the aggression/biting gene implanted in them! :) LOL

Thank you all again for your input!
