BELIZE honeymoon review

finally my honeymoon review!

we went right from our wedding in playa del carmen to our honeymoon in san pedro, ambergris caye, belize.

transportation:

menzies travel - BelizeTransfers.com Home

HIGHLY recommended. they made our trip a breeze. we went from playa del carmen to corazol, belize. They picked us up at our hotel at 8am in a fairly new dodge caravan minivan. It was a private trip, just us and the driver. ezekiel was great. along the way he told us about the small mexican towns we were driving through. we also stopped about half way through to grab snacks and use the bathroom. once we arrived at the mexican border we jumped out to pay the $20 per person exit fee. we then drove a little further to the belizean border to go through customs. the whole thing was painless- they asked us how long we would be there, how much money we had, etc. ezekiel picked us up on the other side of customs and we continued on to the airport. the whole drive was about 3 hours long.

corazol airport/tropic air airlines:

the airport was very tiny. just one little room with two counters. our hotel paid for our airline tickets so we checked rather quickly and then waited for about 20 minutes. turns out that their runway was still under some construction so we had to go to another airport. well… this airport was not an airport at all. it was a dusty clearing in the middle of nowhere! it was pretty funny.

plane ride to ambergris caye:

the trip only took 17 minutes and was painless. the plane flies really low and you can get the lay of the land.

thatâ€s leonardo dicaprioâ€s newest purchase. he hasnâ€t built anything on there yet.

blue tang inn:

we stayed here for a week and it was perfect for us. we didnâ€t want to be secluded anywhere, we wanted to be right in town to experience the food and culture. because we were right in town, there wasnâ€t much of a beach, but just a short walk in either direction there were nice and bigger beaches. there was breakfast served every morning and the hotel staff was very kind. it felt like a b&b atmosphere, not a hotel. they was a nice card and wine upon our arrival.

san pedro:

the town of san pedro has a lot of hustle and bustle for a small town. the island is only about 4 blocks wide and there are stores and restaurants everywhere. you can get anything from street food to really classy island dining. the main mode of transportation is golf carts and generally the only cars are taxis. there are tons of stray dogs- most are totally healthy and the island takes care of them, but some of them are pretty mangy and limp around.. itâ€s kind of sad. but the people are so kind.. they always like to chat.

searious adventures: Ambergris Tours || Belize Tours Searious Adventures

we used searious for two excursions-

hol chan snorkeling-

this was by far the best snorkeling weâ€ve ever done. It was a half day trip out to the reef with beverages included. We saw nurse sharks, sting rays, parrot fish, sea turtles, barracudas- it was amazing.

altun ha / maruba jungle spa-

our second trip was to the ruins of altun ha. First we took a boat to the mainland.

when we got to the ruins, our group was literally the only group of people there. It was really amazing, but be careful- lots of tarantulas!

next we drove (in a school bus!) to maruba jungle spa. itâ€s literally just cut out of the jungle so itâ€s incredibly lush. we had a mud bath which was really relaxing and also took a dip.

on the way home we stopped in bomba village and bought some wood crafts

ultimately, belize was really the perfect honeymoon for us. weâ€re not really resort people, and although we loved our wedding week.. the whole sprawling hotel thing is just not for us. belize is much more gritty and real and itâ€s a place where you can actually interact with the locals on a personal level rather than only when they serve you a drink. there is also something for everyone. you can do every water activity imaginable and a quick boat ride to the mainland takes you to lush jungles and ruins. guatemala is also just a day trip away, although we didnâ€t make it there. If you have any questions, let me know!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
