Default DIY Invitations, printing at home--how difficult?

Hi All,

I'm thinking of ordering blank invitations and printing them myself at home (I have a good color printer). I'm sure others have done this--I'm wondering how difficult/complicated it is, especially the envelopes. I'm afraid to mess them up --it might be worth the $ to pay for them to be printed. Opinions??

Thanks!

I went the DIY route with my invitations. I had originally bought the 4 bar cards and envelopes to use for the RSVP card, but my printer would not pick up the cards to print on them. I had to print on regular size card stock and just cut the cards out. I was able to get 4 out of each page. I wasn't able to print the envelopes for the RSVP cards or for the invitation. I ended up just printing the address and return address labels on clear Avery labels. Since I had colored envelopes you could still the label, but the printing prices were so high I couldn't justify paying all that money.

I did everything at home on my trusty HP and it worked out fabulously. For the envelopes - I just bought the clear labels and printed the addresses on those...

I am doing the same thing but I was told to check the ink cost. It may be cheaper for you to have a printer do the actual printing and then do the cutting and assembling yourself.

There are a couple factors to consider

1. Are you computer, printer savvy?
2. How many are you doing?

If you are confident in your computer, printer and assembly skills go for it! Also ink cost is a factor, depending on how many you are doing it way be more cost and time effective to have some one do it for you. You never know though get some quotes it may be less than you think to have someone else do it.

I do things both ways, but have found even though I have the skills, its gets old after the 50th piece I have to print, cut and assemble when I have 200 to do!

If your willing to spend the time and deal with a little aggravation the DIY may work for you!

Thanks for the advice! I am pretty computer savvy and don't have too many so ink shouldn't be too much, but I will check. The clear labels are a good option if I can't get the envelopes to work in the printer. It's worth the possible aggravation to save the $!

thanks again!

I did my addresses on clear labels for the STD's, but for my invites, I acutally did them on the printer (feeding the envelope through the printer) and they were super easy and turned out really well. I also did the return address at the same time. I do think the labels look almost just as good though.

I'm in the process of making my invitations right now..I'm making the "boarding pass" invitations, and I found a template online for Microsoft Word. So far, so good...they fit in a size 10 envelope, and envelopemall.com has tons of colors and they are fairly cheap (100 for $20). I can fit three invitations on one piece of paper, and will probably print on a cardstock of some type. I think its definitely worth the trouble to save a few dollars!
