Default How Do I Invite a guest after the invites have been sent?

Very long story short....We are only able to have 60 people at our wedding due to resort space...So we invited around 80 with the hopes that not everyone would be able to attend. Because of that our list was REALLY limited.

Well, we are 2.5 months away and we have 52 confirmed guest. It had been eating me up that I didn't invite a family that was really close to us when I grew up. The mother was like a second mother to me. They didn't make the first list because we didn't have room (it was mostly family)...but now that i do have room for them I want to invite them. But I don't know how to do it so that it doesn't seem like they were an after thought? Any ideas? Is it to late to do anything about it?

Well, you could tell her that when you originally picked the resort you had no idea there was a limit on attending guests. Say you had a Lonnng guest list, and were planning on inviting lots of people until you found out about the 60 guest limit. Tell her that between you and your FI's family, the 60 spots filled up very quickly, but in the last few weeks you had an un-expected cancellation, and didn't want to hesitate at all to ask her to come! (I know it's stretching the truth a bit, but it sounds believable to me!

I would sent them the invite and not say anything.

This may sound horrible, but you could contact them and ask if they got their invite. If they say no you could blame the post office and say it "got lost" OK I know its kinda mean, but its an easy way to invite them! lol

I agree with this or as Yari said, say nothing and send it...sometimes the less said is better.
