Default Bringing in a Photographer & hotel "day rates"...

We are currently in the process of moving our photography business down to Playa del Carmen in the beginning of 2009.
I have heard from a couple people about the hotels charging upwards of $500 to bring in your own photographer to the hotel to cover the wedding.
Has anybody had any experience with this and what the different hotels are charging?
Thanks for any info!
...Lincoln & Lori

Our resort, the Iberostar in the Mayan, charges $300 if you choose to bring an outside photographer and not use their photographer.

Our hotel The Azul Fives has a $500 fee per day if we decide to bring in any outside vendors. This applies to any Karisma resort..The Azul Blue, The Azul Sensatori, El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Seaside Suites..etc

We're getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace and they say there are no outside photographers allowed, but my WC said it was no problem as long as they had the $75.00 day pass. So to answer your question, we're paying $75.00 for the pass.

Is your WC part of the hotel or did they contact them on your behalf?
I think $100 or even $200 is reasonable... but $500 is kind of high.

Karisma resorts have the highest fees that I know of. Some resorts have preferred vendors. I think Dreams Cancun has a list of the only outside vendors they allow. Paying a day pass is fair.

We're going to the Royal PDC and we have to pay $100 day pass PER photographer (or photographer's assistant).

We're getting married at Riu Palace Las Americas and we have to pay for day passes ($100) for each photographer. Each Riu resort may be vary though.

The Dreams Resorts don't charge anything, unless the photographer requires drinks and a meal in which case you have to purchase the pass (can't remember the exact cost off hand, but like 50$ for half a day or something like that)

The $500 charge has a few people mad. Here is a VERY long post about the problem with the Karisma resorts:

Boycott El Dorado Royale & Karisma Resorts
