Does anyone know if it is possible to have a wedding on the beach at the ruins in Tulum If so, how to go about it?

FROM_NYC: I have hired Ajua Weddings as my wedding coordinator(s) ( www.ajuaweddings.com). Like you, I didn't want a wedding at an all-inclusive either. Though all-inclusive resorts offer inexpensive wedding packages, the packages are also very limited. I wanted a more traditional reception -- with DJ/band, dinner, etc. I did not want to have just a sit-down dinner at one of the restaurants located in the all-inclusive resort (which is typically what is included in a resort's wedding package). Though going through a resort's wedding package is the most cost efficient route, it's not something that I was interested in. I wanted to give my guests more specially since they are flying all the way to Mexico for my wedding!!!
As for Ajua Weddings, they can plan everything from a beach barbeque to a reception at one of their restaurants. I've been to the Ajua Maya restaurant (one of the options) and their food was fantastic. I actually had dinner there with my fiance and my family on our last visit to Playa del Carmen :) The coordinator fees depend on your expected number of guests. The more guests you have, the higher the fee. Even with the coordinator fees, their options are very reasonably priced. It's not inexpensive but it's not more than what you would pay at any other place either.
Another option that you can look into is getting married at the Xcaret Ecological Park ( www.xcaret.com). I'm not sure if you've been to Cancun but if you haven't, I HIGHLY recommend visiting Xcaret. The Xcaret park also has wedding coordinators on-site that can help you with your wedding plans ( www.xcaretweddings.com). You can get married on the beach or in the chapel. You can have your reception outdoors or indoors (they have several restaurants on-site and all are awesome....food's fabulous. My favorite restaurant is the La Isla, which is located in a cavern/cave). Even if you decide to not get married at Xcaret, you should still visit the park. It's a great place for a day excursion with your guests -- a definite MUST!
Hope this helps!

Hi
we just got back from our wedding in RM mexico... our wedding was just last Friday March 2... we're from NYC... and we had 60 people from our area come along with us...
like you we didnt want a big resort AI wedding... i just see the image of the guy in the speedo standing behind you as you're about to get married... so we had our wedding at the AL CIELO HOTEL Al Cielo Hotel A Charming Small Beachfront Hotel Xpu Ha Beach Riviera Maya Mexico , on Xpu-Ha Beach... about 20 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen... very intimate... private beach wedding and reception... but since the hotel only has 4 rooms... most of our guest stayed with us at the Grand Palladium Kantenah... about 5 minutes from the Al Cielo... but we had some guest stay in hotels in PDC and some stay in other AI resorts... with the Al Cielo Hotel, only being 20-25 minutes away from PDC, there were defintely many choice for our guest to choose from in regards to rooming.. we also had a few stay in Cancun, but that was definitely a drive for them (over an hour and half)...
we used Erica and Maria ( www.weddingsinplaya.com)... if you're doing a wedding not on a resort... you should use a coordinator... we looked at ajua and luxe, but weddingsinplaya.com seemed way more responsive, plus the others were just a little out of our price range... and after meeting Erica, we knew we made the right choice in going with them... they helped with the cake, the flowers, the guitarist, the dj, etc... its just too much to list, in regards to what they did for us... but hiring them was definitely worth it...
hope this helps... so if you have any questions just ask away...

Hi!
I have one more! We are getting married on Maroma Beach, which is about 20minutes south of Cancun. We chose this place for all the same reasons you stated...we have about 60 people, want it to be fun, and don't want people to have to stay at the same all-inclusive we are (if they don't want to!). Basically this place is a private beach, owned partly by Lomas Travel, and partly by Karisma Hotels. All the services are basically through the hotel (food, cake, drinks, etc), but you do not have to stay at the hotel to have the wedding there. So we are staying at a hotel in Cancun, then paying for all the transfers for our guests and their various hotels to our site for the day. It is basically a beautiful beach, they put on chairs and a pretty gazebo (with bamboo and gauze-ish stuff), and then you can have the reception on the beach or at some yet to be named palapa (large grass hut). Oh, and if the Catholic thing is important to you, they will not marry you outside on the beach there, but they do have a small chapel on the same beach they allow you to use. Check out Lomas Travel Cancun Online Reservations for Tours Transfers and hotels in Cancun for a general idea, and email me if have any more questions!
