Ok so plans have changed. We were originally going to cruise in but because of peoples schedules it looks like we will be flying in and staying in the Riviera Maya.
I need to change the budget to reflect staying in a resort/hotel. Can you ladies give me some ball park figure for what a resort costs? Thanks, Carla |

This post has some sample costs listed... Prices can change drastically according to the time of the year... but it can still give you an idea of where the resorts fit in budget-wise. Pricing Comparisons for guests
Another option is to go check out Riviera Maya Hotels, Resorts, Rentals: Mexican Caribbean Vacation They have a price table listed for all/most of the resorts on their site at the bottom of each page. It would also just be a comparison guide. I know I have found my resort for less than what they have posted.
You could probably find an all-inclusive resort for as low as $70 per person/night to as much as a couple hundred per person/night. It just depends what you like and want.

I told our guests to plan $1500 - $2000 total per person while we were searching for a resort.
A lot will depend on the current airfare and how your guests will book. Are you going with a TA and a group rate or having guests book their own trips however they choose?
Unfortunately, since your wedding is more than 10 months out, you won't be able to get accurate pricing.
I wanted to have our guests plan on the high end and not have to come up with more money there at the end.

I don't know how much this helps because I'm from Canada but maybe it will help somebody else who has the same question.
In Canada they sell all inclusive vacation in one week packages including hotel and air (and transfers), nobody here books their flights and hotels seperately (way more expensive to book seperately and go for a few days than to just pick a one week package with flight).
In Canada, depending on the time of year, departure location (toronto is the cheapest, other large airports in the east a bit more, prices in the west/prairies are generally a lot more), how far in advance you book, and of course the resort chosen, the price in my experience for a 5 star resort would be in the 1200$-2200$ price range for most 5 stars (I'm sure there are a few that are way more expensive) excluding Christmas vacation. When I looked for the 2 weeks of Christmas vacation I couldn't find any 5 star resort under 2000$. This of course is just a rough estimate based on my extensive research (different departure locations and the different times of year I was considering).

Oh wow! There is a huge price range to work from. Mine will be a little less than $200 per person/per night. You can definitely find cheaper.
Go to Funjet.com and plug in your dates for Riviera Maya and it will tell you what each hotel might cost. Of course you might get a different rate with a TA or group booking. But getting many prices at one time will be good to get an idea.
Good luck!

I am going to ask though about group rates. If it ends up better I might have everyone use our TA then.
Your number and links have really helped. I am going to budget high while we look into resorts.

Your number and links have really helped. I am going to budget high while we look into resorts. | Hi adias.angel,
I just noticed your comment about the group rates - our TA helped me to understand that the 'group rates' you get through the resort are a bit different than the ones that a TA can provide (which are technically not 'group rates'). The resort rates require you to put your credit card down and agree that at least 10 rooms (different at each resort) will be booked for your dates. Yikes! But with our TA at least, each guest can call them and book however they would like - no airfare is included upfront, but the TA can handle airfare if the guest would like. Apparently, TAs don't get commission for selling plane tickets anymore, so their prices aren't often different from what you can find online.
And, having just received quotes for the Secrets and Excellence Resorts in the Cancun region, I can definitely say that $1500-2200 per person for 7 nights is what we are looking at as well. The Secrets Capri is slightly less than the Maroma Beach or Silversands, and the Excellence Riviera is between the Capri and the MB/Silversands properties in terms of price. How does anyone ever make a decision?!
Best of luck! |
