karma: 3 | Need help w/ wording for favor candy flowers
My FI is Italian and his parents were both born in Italy, but moved here after they got married. They are very traditional and superstitous. I had once asked FMIL about the symbolism behind the 5 almonds as wedding favors because someone told me it was an Italian tradition and each one represented something. Of course, she remembered that I asked so now that we are getting married she found these these almond flowers and wanted to get them for the shower favor-insisted!
Anyway, I have had nothing to do with the shower as my aunt and cousin have planned it all. So I told them she wanted to get these things, but they already got something for a favor, but they were OK with her getting them and we would figure out what to do with them. You can't really tell from the picture, but they are on a long wire. It said on the website they can be used as a napkin ring so we will either do that, or just place them on each person's plate. I wanted to make some kind of tag that says what the almonds represent, but am having a hard time coming up with how I want to word it. Each almond represents health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life. Please help! |

Here you go. Found this on the internet.
Five candied almonds for each guest to eat
To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet
Five wishes they hold for the new man and wife:
Love, happiness, health, children, and a long life!

karma: 5 | Re: Need help w/ wording for favor candy flowers The candy-covered almonds, bomboniera (confetti) tied in mesh bags to toss at the couple is based on a tradition to avoid childlessness. In the past, instead of wedding cake, ornamental bags or boxes were filled with the sugared almonds and sent to friends and guests to signify the matrimony or the "union of bitter and sweet." The number of confetti was, and continues to be, very important; it should be an odd number preferably 5 or 7-- each a good-luck number.
It says to avoid chlldlessness and the union of the bitter and the sweet so maybe you can play off of those words.

Love, happiness, health, children, and a long life! | Thanks Karen, this is perfect! I may alter the man and wife part since we're giving them at our shower -maybe soon to be man and wife or something. I was having major writer's block this morning and couldn't think of anything clever. I knew someone on here could help me out. If I haven't mentioned already the BDW crew is the BEST!!!!

FMIL ordered them from Italy, but I'm sure you can get them online if you do a google search.
