Default What do you suggest... Civil or Blessing

I was going to have a Civil wedding at the Iberostar... But is it a headache to do so? So now, I'm thinking maybe the legal part here, then the blessing ceremony down there. Because if I have the legal wedding there, we need blood work, plus 4 witnesses, then I think we still have to get it changed over (I read it would only be legal in Mexico) to make it legal in Canada...

After reading all about having the legal part done beforehand, I'm thinking that's an easier route...

I think whatever is easiest for you and ur FI.
We are going to do the "legal" part here at home before we leave to Puerto Rico.
If we did it in PR there's all kinds of crazy loops we would need to follow!
I read in another thread and it seems like most couples are doing the "legal" thing at home before leaving.

We did the whole thing in MX but I'm from the US so maybe it is different here? It really wasn't a headache at all - we just used our parents as witnesses and all they had to do was sign our marriage certificate and show their passports. I suppose your first job would be to maybe make a list of both ways and see which one is easier for you and your FI! Good Luck.

I'm doing the civil wedding. In Canada, it only needs to be translated to English to be legal.
We chose that we wanted that one day to really mean something to us, by doing it in one day.

Well, dicussed it with my FI... going to be doing the legal thing here, and having the symbolic/blessing down there.

I told him though, we can't tell anynee though... it'll have to be our dirty little secret for the rest of our life... lol

We're going to be doing the same... we were all set to do the civil one down in Mexico, but when I got the ceremony script it just felt too mechanical. Plus, it was going to be in Spanish. When you add in all the other stuff we had to do (translate documents, blood tests, etc.) we decided to do a symbolic ceremony.
I asked my Aunt if she could do it, but she can't, so we booked the minister the resort uses. He will read what we give him. We just need to get the script to him 2 weeks before and it can't be too long!

My mother knows. I don't want to tell many others though. I'm worried some people will think "what's the point in going down there if they're already married?"
I still don't think it'll take away from the day at all though.

But it took me a few months to get to this point!

Yeah, we will probably do the legal thing here, then symbolic in mexico. Aside from being less of a headache, it will save us like 600 bucks. Thats almost enough to pay for the DJ.

We too are doing the legal part at home and the ceremony in Mexico. Too much hassle for blood, witnesses, and legal docs. :)
