Cancun in September- weather question!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies!!

We're currently looking at a few resorts in Cancun. We are planning a September wedding there and yes, we know it's the rainy season and with that in mind we want to know the best time of day to plan our outdoor ceremony. I emailed a couple of the wedding coordinators to see what they suggest but they have not responded yet and I'm growing impatient! lol!!! Has anyone been to Mexico (specifically Cancun) in September? What time of day would you suggest so that we have the least chance of getting rained on?

Take it from someone from New orleans who knows a thing or two about hurricanes..August/September is peak hurricane season. The gulf and Caribbean waters are warm and there are favorable conditions for hurricanes or even tropical storms. As you know, they can even come in July but in August and September your rain chances increase as a result of this.

I wouldn't be worried about the rain. there is much more to a hurricane than that. Look back at some of the old posts last august when there was a hurricane heading to the area & decide if you are willing to deal with that kind of risk.

i don't think you can guess the best time of day to not have rain. just look for a hotel that has an indoor option. If you have never experienced a hurricane you might want to reconsider.

My point is .....That is the reason it is rainy season so time of day will not help you. If its going to rain its not a specific time of day.

I have been going to Cancun the last few years between mid August and late September and stayed 1 - 1 1/2 weeks and it has only rained once and no hurricanes occured. And, the day it rained, it rained early in the morning and by the afternoon the sky was clear (although the humidity that day was out of control!). So, it all really depends! It really just depends on so many different factors, it is really hard to say. I did make sure , however, that my hotel has a back up indoor location incase it does rain. I'm sure my guests will manage if there's a not-to-serious hurricane, as long as there's alcohol in the hotel they will enjoy themselves smile29.gif

It would be a safe assumption to get married at sunset...sometime between 4-6 pm. If it rains, it rains...if not, then everyone is happy. In my experience in Cancun, it rains during the bed time hours, so you should be fine regardless what time you get married

Why don't you plan for outside ceremony at whatever time you want (since you can't predict the weather) and just make sure you have also picked out a good spot inside the resort somewhere so you have a contingency plan just in case.

I have heard from a lot of people that they have had great weather in Mexico in September. Most of the people I have spoken to experienced little to no rain even though they were in Cancun during the peak hurricane season.

I changed the date of my wedding from September to December partly because of hurricane season but more because of my concern for the hot temperatures that time of year.

You'll have a fabulous day - rain or shine!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
