 | Re: Quitting smoking Erica, hang in there. The first 2 weeks are the hardest. DH used to smoke but he quit almost 3 months ago, it was really hard on him. He had every side effect imaginable to man, he bought the chewing gum and that helped, but didn't smoke as much as the directions required. It will get better.... I promise. :) |

 | Re: Quitting smoking I'm a total hypocrit because I'm smoking again... but the last time I quit for 6 months I used the patch and exercise. I found jogging really helped, because I definitely saw improvement in my stamina the longer I wasn't smoking. The patch really helped my cravings too...
The physical addiction to nicotine is actually gone in 3 days, so congrats! You've made it past that point! The psychological addiction is the hard part... good luck and stick with it! I'll be there with you soon :) I can't believe you were spending $10 a pack! That's some serious cash!
You and FI could make a jar and put whatever you were spending into it and plan an extra-special honeymoon excursion or second vacation or something else that would give incentive! At $20/day you could give yourselves a kickass present! |

 | Re: Quitting smoking i've never smoked, so all i can really say is well done! all your hard work at this end will be worth it when you start to taste food differently, smell things differently...and notice more money in your purse at the end of the week!
Be strong lady! :)

 | Re: Quitting smoking Congrats and making a huge step. I just hit my 9 month mark of quiting! The 1st couple of weeks are the hardest. I wont lie it was hard. There was a time when I would have smoked my shoe if I could. But I stayed busy, joined a spinning class at the gym, and continued to move forward. It was the best thing that I could have done for myslef. I feel great. I used to get sick a lot,a nd now that I have quit I havent been sick once. I hope that is a little motivation for you. If you need support please feel free to PM me!!

 | Re: Quitting smoking FI quit coming up 3 years ago because he was going to have to pay full price for the cigs and also he watched his dad die of lung cancer - that did it for him.
He was vile for a few weeks but he's stuck to it - mind you he did say this week when he was under a lot of stress he wanted one but knew i'd kick him out lmao

 | Re: Quitting smoking Congrats on quitting! I know how hard it is. Even though I have a huge reason for motivation (I'm pregnant), it's still a struggle each day. I quit a little over a month ago and was absolutely miserable and moody for the first 2 weeks (I'm surprised my husband didn't leave me when he got hit with a shoe...lol!). Every single day I wake up and still want one, but every night when I go to bed, I congratulate myself for making it through another day. I really don't have any major wisdom, just stick with it. I tried to quit numerous times before (especially after my dad died of lung cancer-related problems) and it never worked until I was 100% committed to quitting.

 | Re: Quitting smoking I am almost ready to quit. I'm waiting til summertime is over, lol. I am quitting b/c I want to be smoke-free for at least 6 months before we start trying to have children. I want my body to have time to cleanse. I will probably use Chantix, though, b/c even though I have quite cold turkey for 4-years and know I can do it, I really don't want to quit this time so I think Chantix could help. Plus, it's supposed to help with alcohol cravings as well and I know I will need to cut back on my drinking if I want the quitting smokig to be successful.
Stay strong! I'll be on here with my own support thread in another month or so.

 | Re: Quitting smoking When my dad quit after 25 years of smoking, he had to figure out what he needed. Some people need to have something in their hands (so keep them busy typing or holding a pen) and some need something on their lips, which might be why you feel the need to snack or drink soda. For the mouth thing, my dad used toothpicks. He just kept one hanging off his lip whenever he craved a cig (at home anyways). |

 | Re: Quitting smoking Thanks for all your support everybody. My FI and I mad it through our first crisis without smoking YEAH!!!Our boat broke down in the middle of the ocean BOO!!! a situation we probably would have smoked a pack while waiting to get towed and we didn't (helped not having any). I decided to start the Chantix pill because I was just not strong enough but it is amazing I suggest it to everyone who is thinking of quitting. I still want to smoke just to fill in the time but it is def getting better and you have all helped again thanks for the support. |
