karma: 2 | Honeymoon in French Polynesia - ? for Tammy or others
Tammy, I realize your honeymoon was a few years ago, but I thought maybe I could ask you a few questions about your experience?
You mentioned in your plans to go that your husband was planning on surfing while there. Did he manage to find any good waves? Did he bring his own board or were there any rentals available (lugging our boards is not our idea of fun)? On what islands did he surf? What level of skill was necessary?
You mentioned you stayed in the garden bungalows at the Sheraton. Were these alright? I don't think I can splurge for too many nights for an OWB, so I'm trying to figure out where I should do a garden bungalow. I didn't see anything about beach bungalows on their site.
You mentioned going on to a second island, that wasn't Bora Bora. Bora Bora is extremely expensive from what I'm reading, and the flight there is over $500 from Moorea, so I'm trying to decide whether I should try another island that is different in feel from Moorea - maybe with even better water? Did you like where you stayed, or did you wish you had planned differently?
Was FP really worth the trip? We're thinking of flying to Hawaii to surf on Oahu and then continuing on to Tahiti since we're not sure if we can manage to find surf rentals there, so the whole round trip flight cost will be about $1650 a person - I'm just worried it won't feel worth it, but like you, I feel like we can always go to HI and MX, and many other places will be rainy season in September, when we plan on going (yes, last minute!).

I'm definitely interested in this too...I'd LOVE to go there but I'm afraid of the cost?

Tammy, I edited my original post (which somehow submitted before I finished typing, oops!) - questions are in there. Basically, I'm supposed to incorporate surfing into at least a few days of our honeymoon, and if we can't find that in FP, then we're going to start our honeymoon in HI. We're more of intermediate longboarders (he is intermediate, I'm advanced beginner) who go out to point breaks here in SoCal mostly. I really wanted somewhere new and HI is not new for me, and I didn't want that large resort type feel that you get in HI - I wanted bungalows and beautiful water. But FP prices are freaking me out.
Oh, one more question in addition to my first posts' questions - did you explore on your own at all or are you tied to these group tours? And did you get bored at all?
And T.O. Heather, I'm afraid of the cost too ha ha, it is really a turn off actually - so so freaking pricey compared to similarly nice lodgings further away (sadly further away), and I'm almost ready to give up, but I want some exotic locale and lodging for my honeymoon and am trying to figure out how to make it work!

Hey ladies-
I too want to have my honeymoon in Bora Bora, Fiji, Cook Island or New Caldonia... I would love any information you guys can provide.
We are planning to use our starwoods points to stay at Le Meridian at any of the locations, but I would love to know any insight you all may have.
Thanks in advance
Kathy
