Default Photo question

For anyone that has received their professional photos, if you got a Cd of your photos, are they the edited ones? I just received mine and the ones on the CD appear to be the unedited ones. I also received an album with a 100 beautiful photos that have been edited:color corrected, special effects etc, that I absolutely love!! My question is, how would I go about getting larger photos of the ones in the album or even copies in the same size?? Would I have to take the photos out of the album and take them to a professional developer? Sorry if I sound stupid. I am just curious about how this whole process works because I didn't have professional photos taken at our original wedding.

Thanks for any info

Hmmm, I think sometimes "digital negatives" refers to RAW files. Have you checked to see if the ones on your CD are even high enough resolution to make prints? they might just be proofs on a CD.

Do you have the description of what your photographer said they would give you?

Find out if you have the rights to reprints. You can't just take a pro pic in & have it reproduced. Most places won't do that unless you have a statement that you have the right to do it.

If you can find the wording on your contract/ their website we can probably figure it out.

It says all the images will be delivered to me in high resolution and I received a letter giving me all rights to the images.

It was packaged beautifully in a leather bound case with a photo on the left hand side and then the CD also has a photo on it.

OK so they gave you your high res images but they didn't color correct them? I'm not sure if that is typical.

if you want to email me one I'll see if I can understand better what they did.

Alot of the photographers that I have price-shopped with give only un-edited photos on the disc - definetely not the same as what you see on their websites.

I'm surprised by this. I would think a photographer would want to give you the polished product.

That's my thinking too, and when I questioned about that - I was told that if you want the same artistic look as what you see on the website, you can purchase the print from them. It's definetely something that I have learned to ask, and would advise anyone still shopping for your photographer to do as well.

we got all of the raw photos and had the rights to them. maybe that's what resort photographers do?
if you want prints, you can probably just bring them to a place, or upload to a site like kodak gallery and order them. but i could be wrong.

This is definitely something that brides should get spelled out in detail before they sign a contract with a Photographer. The term "high resolution" really doesn't mean much of anything - "high" in comparison to what?

You should find out exactly what resolution the files will be, either in megapixels or the exact measurements in pixels (ie. 3000 x 4000 etc).

And you should definitely find out whether you're getting the edited files, or not. If someone only gives you the unedited ones, that seems pretty shady to me, especially if you're teased with a bunch of beautiful, fully edited versions of the same photo.

I would just call them and ask them up front. It's entirely possible that it was a mistake, or something. But always protect yourself up front and make sure it's detailed on your contract.

And regarding your release, it probably gives you the rights to the photos on the CD (unedited) but it most likely doesn't give you the rights to scan and reprint the photos that you got in the book. I'm actually not 100% sure on that, since they're technically the same photos, just with different edits. In either case, scanning the photos and reprinting will not give you the same quality as printing directly from the digital files.

I hope this works out ok for you, hopefully they just forgot to include the editied versions of your photos. =)
