Default Grand Mayan Palace - Nuevo Vallarta

Has anyone stayed here? It looks HUGE but the prices seem reasonable - $185+ tax for a standard room (all rooms come standard with oversized jacuzzi) or $265+tax for a suite with separate King bedroom w/jacuzzi and full sized kitchen w/ granite counters and your own private "plunge pool" on the terrace/balcony. They also have 2 bedroom suites. It looks like a great place for families with kids. It reminds me a lot of the Maya/Lindo in the Riviera Maya... huge and sprawling, long walk to the beach, nice rooms though and great for kids/families..

On the grounds they have a wave pool, lazy river, kiddie water park, slides, tons of pools, etc...

9 miles North of the Airport and 20 mins away from downtown (according to the website)

I shot a ttd/day after session there, back in Jan. The grounds were very well kept and the staff were very nice to us.

Isn't that where Amy is right now? Or is there another Mayan in NV?

I love the look of the place, and the wave pool is too cool! Also it is really affordable and if I wanted to stay in NV I would seriously consider it.

Jamy - I *think* there may be another Mayan in NV although I could be totally wrong on this. I spent all day Sunday going through nearly every single hotel thread in the PV section so my mind is a bit dizzy now

It does look like a great deal huh! My concerns are as follows:
- I've never been to NV. Since we took two site visits down to PV to explore great restaurants and such it would be kind of a shame to stay so far away from the Marina and Downtown areas.
- I don't know if there is a good food store (aka inexpensive, to buy breakfast foods, beer/wine/liquor, snacks, etc...) around that is off the hotel grounds.
- Also don't know if there are any other restaurants around besides the ones at the hotel (again, fairly expensive yet unique and yummy... ya know, like all the ones down south in PV! )
- Not sure how much longer the boat ride would be to Caletas. I wrote Nicole about this but I just received a map back from her showing where they depart in NV. I will ask her again and report back...

I do like the fact that the beaches are better up there and it looks like you might get a little more bang for your buck. Also, I'm thinking maybe those hotels don't book up as quick so we could get a room block...

There is another AMAZING hotel up there (Villa La Estancia) that was having some remarkable deals on Expedia. I will post a separate thread on it. Although they do accept kids, they don't look nearly as kid friendly.

hi Jaime,
Just so you know the Grand Mayan is a timeshare resort. (didn't know if you knew that). Also there is a grand mayan, or Mayan resorts in PV....that is the one that Amy is at. My sister's and mom and I stayed in the mayan in NV last year, we were allowed to go see the grand mayan and it is very nice. Any questions ask me :) I think I did a review a while back will look for it...also took pics, if you would like to see.

Hey Drea,

After reading through all the reviews on Trip Advisor I don't think the Grand Mayan is the way to go for us. I did read a lot about timeshare presentations, but not that it was a "timeshare resort". Anyways, I really think it's better that we stay closer to town if at all possible...

Just out of curiosity, how was the Mayan NV?

I know Amy is/was getting married at the Mayan in PV (I thought we were going to get married there for awhile) but I thought she was honeymooning at a Mayan in NV... could be wrong about that.

We stood next door at the Mayan Palace in NV last November - I thought the resort was beautiful. Keep in mind we were staying with FI's parents in adjoining rooms, but the grounds were immaculate. We walked through the Grand Mayan and it was beautiful.

People with timeshares DO stay there, but we never got pressured to do timeshares. The entrance into Mayan Palace is awesome! I have pics of our room at Mayan Palace and of the grounds if you are interested.

Both hotels are in the front of NV and a taxi downtown was around $17. The food is good, and they have drink specials by the pool. MIL and FIL took the kids and went one entire day and hung out at the lazy river.

We have some guests staying there for our wedding. My aunt actually reserved the room you have pics of, with the balcony, etc.

I thought it was an amazing place to stay. The pool was never crowded and the staff/service was excellent. For food, we just took a trip to the crazy ass Wal Mart. We also ate in the restaurants a couple of times. It wasn't bad at all.
