Default Taking Photographer with you: Travel Insurance

For those who are taking/who took a photographer with them away and paid their way, what were your expectations when it came to travel insurance?
Did you get it for them? Did you pay? Did you split it? Did they pay?
Were you worried about not having it?

I'm sending my photographer a list of qn's and this was one of them. We're getting married April 2009 and I am worried about something happening in between when we sign the contract and when we go away in 10 months!

I asked by photographer if he wanted me to get him insurance. He said he would get his own.

He said if something happens between now and our date he will provide a full refund, which is signed in our contract

I purchase my own travel insurance, once a year and it is good for a year. My business is also fully insured, I think it is a must!

A couple of notes (from a working traveling wedding photographer):

I use my AMEX for all reservations - which has built in travel ins.
I also have insurance trough several of my professional agencies.
Finally, I have a network of friends around the world just in case.

One more thought - I almost always book my own flights, and make sure there are several flights arriving to the location between when I leave and when the wedding starts - just in case...

Our photographer was part of our group contract, so we paid her vacation package and travel insurance that was offered with it.

In my contract with her it outlined that if she were unable to to the wedding she would refund us all of our money if a suitable replacement could not be found in time for the wedding.

I payed for their flight and two night stayed. We never discussed travel insurance. She purchased her own tickets.Which I assume that's what your photographer would be more comfortable doing.

Thanks everyone... I sent another list of qn's to my potential photographer and I'm waiting for an reply. I know he's done a DW last year, so he should know what he prefers to do, and hopefully he'll just let me know... We don't have to book our travel insurance just yet, so I'll figure it out by that time though!

We are booking him with our group since he is leaving from the same departure place and coming from NS, we only have the option of 1 week all inclusive, so he's part of our group rate. We never gave him the option to book on his own.
