Gran Porto Real/ Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda

I just a group quote on findgroupdeals.com (priceline) and Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda contacted me within minutes. I have never heard about this resort before and saw very mixed reviews. I did a search and nothing came up. Does anyone know anything about this resort?

I just started looking into Mexico, and was wondering if anyone is planning or got married at these hotels. They both look really nice, but I would like some real feedback. Also, what are the costs of weddings like. I know they post the packages, etc. But I would like to know what people actually pay.

Hey there!

I'm in the beginning stages of planning myself. My partner and I are looking into the Royal, which is meant to be just across the way from the Gran Porto Real.

We don't have a budget yet, but we're basing in on how much we can save and on how much we think things might cost. Here's what I've found during my endless hours of research on the internet:

Wedding Planner fee (off-resort): about $500, although their deposit amounts vary from $500 to $1000.
Semi-private beach wedding for 30 pax, including chairs, aisle runner, decorations, officiant, guitarist for 45 minute set and all those little extras you might have to add to a resort wedding package: about $2,200, this includes the wedding planner fee
*Decent* professional photographer for 3 hours: between $1,500 and $4,500
*Decent* professional videographer for 3 hours: between $1,100 and $1,800
Wedding reception at The Royal: a maximum of $70 per person including premium open bar, basic decor, tables, chairs, dance floor... for 4 hours
Catering at a private locale: starts at about $55 per person for 3 courses
Bus rental for 30 pax: around $300
DJ: around $700 for 4 hours

I'm planning on having about 30-40 guest attend and our fluctuating budget for the actual wedding affair is at about: $11,300, that excludes our accomodation in Playa del Carmen, and our super expensive flights to Mexico from Australia, dress, etc. That's a little bit more than we would have spent on just the food and beverage at a similar event in the US. Barf, is what I say to that!

I have a friend that just went to a wedding at the Blue Bay and said it was amazing - the service and the hotel are pretty nice, at increadible prices. I have been communicating with someone there and they are really nice. I am actually going to meet them on site next week to see the resort. Will post feedback when I get back. P.

Only know the Blue bay get away and spa, that was nice just with it being a bit of a swingers joint was a bit weird but very funny at times lol

Gotta be part of the same group but the hotel and people were lovely, I'd go back
