Well I live in NY and a marriage license here costs about $60 bucks so the money aspect is not a problem. Plus I'm a lawyer so if I needed any paperwork it would be easy for me to get it together. But in NY all you need is a couple forms of ID, which you can just use your drivers license, copy of your birth certificate, and a passport. It's very easy so getting married in city hall here is very efficient. However b/c I am a litigator and I am in courts all day I get depressed about the thought of getting married in a court. They usually marry people in the basement floor and it's so dingy. (Although I saw Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams picking up a marriage license a couple of weeks ago in Brooklyn Court.) And I am spanish-catholic and my FI is Irish-Catholic and if we did not get married in a church our parents would probably disown us. Plus I know it is really depressing to think about unhappily ever after, but I am a very practical person so I always think about marital laws and what would be more beneficial should a divorce ensue. Sorry to be debbie downer, just wanted to be honest. I just felt like if I got legally married first in the states I wouldn't feel so special in Mexico. Maybe this is dumb but I really wanted the first time my new husband sees me walk down the aisle that it be the real wedding. But I think I'm just going to suck it up and get married here in a church before I run off to cabo. Sorry this was so long.

So true Anny! I heard that there is this couple who travels around the world and gets married everywhere. And they have books and write about their experiences. What a cool life. Maybe I was a hippie in another life...

That'd be great to have the money to host receptions everywhere so your guest could be with you wherever they want

Anny, you're so lucky, all of your paperwork will be so easy!
We still have to do blood tests in mass, but I think it will just be one less thing we have to worry about, I wouldn't want something to go wrong!
Glenda, I thought the same thing when steve first suggested it, but then once I started reading the requirements and thought about it a little more, I knew it would just be so much easier and less worrisome. I don't think we'll even really feel married until we have our ceremony, that's when it will be real and that will be our anniversary, no matter what day we go to the town hall to do it. You should do what ever feels right for you.

If I were american I'd definietly marry in US, actually I was thinking of having my legal wedding in my hometown 'cause it'd be cheaper but since I'm not having a beach ceremony I think I'll have my legal wedding at the beach..
