karma: 1 | What time should our wedding be?
I need some help deciding. We cannot decide between a wedding at 3:00p.m. or 5:00p.m. We are getting married at the Barcelo. Anyway, we both want the sun to start setting at the end of the ceremony- so that we can start taking pictures with the sun setting. Plus we want to get in about an hour or so of pictures afterwards with the sun. I wouldn't mind also the sun to be setting during the beginning of the dinner reception.
Which time should we pick? What time does the sun set in Mexico- Mayan Riviera? I'm from Saskatchewan Canada, so the sun takes about 4 hours to set here, it's very very flat. LoL.
Thanks.

you might want to check the weather channel's website i think they can give you sunset time all over the world. Also you might want to keep in mind the temperatures at those times. my fsil's wedding was at 6 pm in Riviera Maya but others were at 2pm and we would see these people all dressed up and feel so bad for them. They had to be dying from the heat, even 6 pm was hot. but that was in end of May.

My November wedding in Cancun was scheduled for 5pm, after the advice of our photographer we moved it up to 4pm because we wanted to be able to do pictures afterwards. So keep that in mind too.

Matt emailed me with some questions about my wedding (We might be booking Vincent as our photographer). He said that 5-530 is the best start time for the ceremony so you can get the best lighting. We were planning on a 5pm ceremony anyways, so I say go with 5pm.

We went with five because the sun is so hot before then.

Since your wedding is in Feb, I would DEF look up the sunset times because it's different for different months. It will set earlier than the summer months. I would think 5pm would still be ok, but I would look up the times just in case!

I'm going to say 3PM. We have a 2PM ceremony for much of the same reason.
Jean-Marcus actually has a thread about that from a few weeks ago. I guess he shot a wedding and the sun set on them fast, so he warned us about that. I'll see if I can find it....

Here's the Jean-Marcus link a BIG TIP to you eastern coast mexico couples
Also, check this out, I put in Cancun, Feb 2008 and the average sunset was around 5:30-5:45. If you do the 5PM ceremony, and it ends at 5:30, you'll have almost no daylight time left. http://www.sunrisesunset.com/calendar.asp

Ok, I got married in early April, so it might not apply... but I would go with 3 PM. we had daylight savings happen the day we arrived, and thank goodness! It was then sunset around 6:30 but otherwise it would have been at 5:30 and it GETS DARK FAST! We could barely take three pictures before the sun set. This is becauase the sun doesn't set with the ocean, so the light quickly gets blocked by buildings and trees.
Ok, that was long... but I'd go with 3 pm.

Looking at the sunset time (5:44pm) compared to my date(7:22)... I would go with 3pm. Sounds like a better time.
