karma: 2 | So Where CAN You Take Pro Pics on Tulum Beach?
Long title..:)
I know you aren't allowed to have professional photos done at the ruins, but I LOVE the rocks and the colors of the beach near the ruins. What exactly are the restrictions in terms of having photos taken on the beach itself? I know theres plenty of beach front down the way, but I'm wondering if its possible to shoot close enough to get the ruins in the background at all? Has anyone done this and if so, what time of day? Trying to avoid crowds as I hate the idea of having a hundred looky loo's in the background.
Oh, this would be for a TTD shoot.

Sorry, I'm not much help. We were stopped at the ruins and weren't allowed in. We went to the nearest public beach which is about 2-3 miles down the road. I'm sure if you walked the beach you would eventually find the ruins in the background, but it's a long walk... and HOT! But, we went at 9 in the morning and the BEACH was empty. The ruins were FULL.

I also got stopped at the ruins, I had never heard you couldn't go. I changed into my bathing suit but then they wanted me to leave my dress in a locker at the front gate. But another Dreams Tulum bride managed to do it by walking in with normal clothes and changing on the beach. When I was there there were no employees anywhere near the beach.
I'm not sure about being able to reach the ruins from a public beach.

There is really no way to access the ruins from either direction on the public beach. That's part of what made it such a great and secure location for the original settlement.
I can't think of anywhere on the beach that would have a view of the ruins that is not on the government property. I have seen photos facing the ruins from a boat that looked pretty cool though.
What was pointed out to me once is that a lot of the people working at the ruins site are Mayan. In general they appreciate people coming to see and learn about their ancient culture, but in some ways they frown on people treating it with any perceived disrespect. It's their rules, their national treasure and it's up to us to play along with their rules.

Yup, it really is disrespectful. That's why we didn't push it with my dress. When they said no, it meant no.
I mean, wedding dresses and photos like that aren't part of the Mayan culture.

I get it, and I wouldn't want to do anything to piss anyone off. We'll be visitors after all. I just want those beautiful rocks and sand incorporated into my pics and I'll be happy. I don't especially need the ruins themselves..I just admire the beach front underneath them, so I'm basically looking for a stretch of beach that looks similar to that underneath the ruins I guess.
