does anyone know whether wedding planners who are not associated with hotels also have their own contracts with certain venues? so far, i've only been working with one planner and i'm completely satisfied with her service, but i'm wondering if i should also talk to other planners... are the independent planners limited to what they can recommend because of their own contracts or is it safe to assume that the independent coordinators are truly independent?

eab, It is my understanding that some of the wedding planners do not adhere to the ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants) code of ethics, which is what most reputable professional wedding planners adhere to. This code of ethics recommends that professional bridal consultants do not receive any $$$ from vendors that they recommend. This ensures that the wedding couple are presented will ALL options and together you and the wedding planner make the best informed decisions. Of course, the wedding planner will recommend to clients, the vendors that she/he works best with, has confidence in and meets your budget. With all that being said, I know that some wedding planners in the Caribbean are not ABC consultants and therefore, may not adhere to this code of ethics. I know that some are aligned with certain venues and it is really up to you to do the research yourself then discuss with your consultant your findings. I hope this helps you some. I am working with Janelle from Island Bliss Weddings. I doubt she is an ABC member or whatever or I'm sure she would be advertising it. She has not pushed any vendors on me and has only made recommendations according to what I say I need. I am planning on using Angel Accents for my florals and I thought she might have a problem with that(bc I thought the florist probably helped her set up or something), but she had no issues at all. I love her so much! She is incredibly fast in responding, like usually within a couple hours, a day at most and she gives detailed answers to your questions.

Hope I can help some....Independant coordinators ARE truly independant! We have the option of fullfilling your requirements by choosing from many differant vendors! We use several differant ministers, photographers, cake bakeries, videographers, etc.. If you want someone specific, we will be happy to work with you! Sometimes a bride will hire her own photographer, for instance, then we provide the rest! Independant Coordinators are very flexible.
