Default Suggestions to avoid uninvited guests?

We're staying at an AI but are still paying per person for a private event. While it's fine with me if those that we invite bring others to enjoy a few days in Mexico, I want to make it clear that the wedding and reception are only for those that we specifically invited. I'm afraid with some of my coworkers the lack of an "and guest" on the invite isn't clear enough. Any suggestions - something else I can put on the invite?

Hello, I updated the title to your thread to make it more specific to your questions.

We have all had this situation. The way I am trying to avoid this is by stating the following on the reply card

"We have reserved ____ seats for you" and actually wrote in a number.

That is a good idea. I never thought of that.

My cousins actually wrote down the names of the person(s) invited on the RSVP cards but the number sounds much easier!

This is another alternative. I thought of doing this but I needed the guests to tell me their menu choice so it would've been to complicated

If I were you, I would definitely make it crystal clear. I think most people automatically assume that if they are invited to a wedding that it includes +1.

If I were invited to a co-workers wedding in another country (that I had to pay a good amount of money to get to) and was told that my wife was more than welcome to travel along with me but was not invited to the wedding.....I would 'respectfully' decline the invite.

I understand that you are putting out a lot of money for the wedding, but from the guests perspective they are putting out a lot of money to get to your wedding as well.

I am not meaning to be rude or anything here. Just some food for thought.

I agree with Lambert13.

My mom suggested we don't even do a reception since it's an AI resort, but FI made the same point Lambert13 did, these people are spending a lot of $ to be with us, we should at least give them a party, even if they bring a +1 we've never met.

I've just had the same conversation with one of my guests lol

I don't want a reception people are going for a holiday and just spending a few hours with us but i've given in to FI on that lol

One of my best mates just told me that he's not sure what he is going to do yet as it is a way off and i might not go through with it lmao cheek!! I told him that was fine but if he was bringing anyone with him they weren't coming to the wedding lol

He laughed but I said no i'm serious i'm not paying for someone I don't know so if you want her to come cough up the cash lol that kind of knocked that on the head lmao

You need to be straight with people if they are friends they will understand if not their prob not yours.

We looked at our wedding a different way. It wasn't a vacation for our guests that included our wedding.

It was our wedding that also included a vacation. Our guests went to Mexico to see our wedding.. on top of that we got to spend several days together, but they all went there for us.

I guess if you have guests going to your destination for another reason then I could see not inviting their guests, but if they weren't that close, they wouldn't have been on our invite list in the first place.
