I wish I had more answers for you, most of my students go to NC but I will ask some of my more trusted students what they would suggest.

Hey I just finished reading an article about HH wedding planning from a magazine called The Runaway Bride Destination Guide.
It's a new mag based out of HH...It offered some great information...

One suggestion that stood out is that if you're having a smaller wedding you could consider renting two beach homes--one for the wedding and one for guests. They also mentioned renting a beach house that's located in a resort...so your guests will have plenty to do before and after the wedding. The article mentioned Palmetto Dunes resort having rentals from 1,500 to 20,000 per week.

One interesting thing that a wedding planner mentioned in the article is to read the fine print when renting a home...she said HH has a strict noise control ordinance in effect after 10pm and until 7am...so if your beach home is close to others that could pose a problem. And HH requires that lights on structures that are visible from the beach are shielded or turned off after 10pm in order to protect the endangered sea turtle hatchlings making their way to the ocean...

This is a new mag so didn't see a website but here's the phone # they listed in case you want to contact them 843.342.5144.

Thanks for all your suggestions! It means a lot! I am sorry that I haven't responded in awhile... my twin sister had her baby. So, I have been spending more time with her. If you have anymore ideas or pics, I would love to hear and see them! Thanks again for all your help.

I can't believe I didn't notice this thread sooner, I am planning a destination wedding in Charleston, so you're just down the street! I've been vacationing on Seabrook Island since I was 12 so this is our home away from home. It's great to have a fellow Carolina bride here, I was getting lonely....ahahaha! I see that you are planning for June 2009, so I can keep you posted on my vendors.

We are doing the same thing for the bridal party, renting 2 houses for them to stay at for up to a week. I good friend of mine did the same thing in the Outer Banks on Memorial Day weekend coming up on 2 years ago and they also got married on the beach outside of the houses....it was really nice and super convienent for everyone really. The reception was somewhere else but it was a really nice idea!

Happy Planning!

OMG Hilton Head is ssoo awesome! Tom's parents live there now and we LOVE to go visit.

I agree with JIll, definitely check out Dafauskie Island. That would most definitely be my choice, if your budget allows. You could either do the wedding at the Club or rent a house/houses on the island. It's so unique since the only access is by boat and then you drive around in golf carts. Astonishingly beautiful as well!

Tami and Jill-
Thanks for the insight! Jill maybe you and I can help build up the East Coast section on the BDW forum and help future brides like us! I love this sight because you get so many wedding ideas, but we can't get many ideas on places in SC. Hopefully we can change that.
I need to change the wedding date on my info file (thanks for the reminder!), but we have moved up our wedding date to June 2008. Am I crazy or what?! My family travels to HHI every year (though I haven't been able to go because I was in grad school the last 2 summers). We are all going down as a family and Eric and I decided to do it this summer. So, I am losing out on my dream of renting a house because it is high season and they are all booked. I'm ok with it as I think we will encourage guests to stay close by. We will be staying in Palmetto Dunes which is unsual becuase we haven't stayed in that part of HHI since I was in highschool. Tami-where do your inlaws live? How cool to have you in laws live in such a great vacay spot. I am sure you make it down there often! (I know I would!)
Anywho...we are looking at the Dune House or Celebration Events. Does anyone know anything about this location? Decisions, decisions...and they must be made fast as I am dwindling down on time. Look forward to reading and hearing about your upcoming weddings! Thanks again!

This might be kinda random---- but I have a close girlfriend that is getting married in Atlantic Beach, NC-- which is closer than Mexico! :) She is getting married in October and is really happy so far with the resort, and the wedding coordinators.. Here's where she is having her wedding....

The Ocean Club Resort

Good luck!

I am getting married here on Hitlon Head Island. I did find that it is much more exspensive here than other markets just because of where it is at. But there are vendors in Bluffton (which is right off island) and in Savannah that come this way that are cheaper and just as good.

But I do have to say the ONLY place I would get a wedding cake here is Sheri's Edible Design's...she is so talented, she is so talented and her cakes are to die for!!! here is her web site: Sheri's Edible Designs - Truly Unique Cake Art - Hilton Head Island, SC - Creating Elegant and Unique Wedding Cakes, Birthday Cakes and Special Event Cakes. Wedding Cakes Hilton Head, Hilton Head Weddings, Hilton Head Bakery, Hilton Head Wedding Cake

Flowers, IMO A Floral Affair does the most beautiful work...but are very pricey. You can see there work on the Platinum Weddings show in this area... I opted to have a friend in Atlanta do my flowers for about 1/3 of the price and my fiance' is going to bring them when he comes.

Lowcountry Rentals for rental items...there are a lot of really good caterers, I am using Christine's Catering. She is a dream to work with, another good one is The Downtown Catering Company (they are in Bluffton too), they have done some of the Platinum Weddings here too. They all have website and will get back to your emails ASAP!

If you are looking to keep costs down, which we are (since I am moving the week after the wedding to Atlanta) stay on the North end, way less commercial, very natural habitat and you don't have to worry about all the tourists or party animals. I will try to find a picture of the beach where we are getting married...hope that helps :)
