Hawaii honeymoon question/comments

Joe and I were just discussing our honeymoon. We'd like to go to Hawaii for 2 weeks. We're not sure though if we want an all inclusive hotel OR we thought that an ocean hut type place would be SWEET (picture below) We thought it'd be cool b/c ya know how when you go away to diff countires or whatever sometimes you can't leave the resort- or SHOULDNT leave the resort bc its dangerous? Well we didnt think Hawaii was like that so getting a private hut wouldnt be such a bad idea. I dont know since I was never there but....

1- Do they have anything like that in Hawaii?
2- If so are the places part of a "resort" or whatever?? Know what I'm sayin?

I don't know about beach huts, but I've been to Maui and Kauai and both islands were amazing. I liked Maui the best, more of a nightlife.

As far as I know there is only one all inclusive resort in all of Hawaii, and that is on the Big Island. Talk to a TA to be certain and to see about the hut-type accomodations. I'm honestly not sure, good luck!

Hi there, I'm a bit of a Hawaii fanatic..been to the 4 major islands. Yes, starchild is right, the only all inclusive is on the Big Island called Kona Village Resort. They have the hut type of lodging, supposed to be upscale. Lots of activities but don't think the all-inclusive includes the cocktails like the Mexico resorts do. Of the 4 main islands, Kauai is IMO the most tropical like atmosphere with the least amount of crowds. No high rises, lots of tall green mountain landscape on the North Shore, one lane bridges, and towering waterfalls. Next would probably be the BI and you can also explore the volcano national park.

On all the islands, besides the Kona Village, the best you could get to a 'hut' type of rental would be an oceanfront beach house/cottage rental. Unfortunately no over water bungalows.

Maui also has unique tree house type of rentals on the Hana side.

Hope I didn't put too much info, I spent literally hundreds of hours researching Hawaii for the first few trips we did.

i know the most about oahu over any other island so here's what i think.

there is a great bungalow hotel on the north shore of a oahu called ke'iki. there are a number of reasons why i like it. they filmed parts of the movie the big bounce there and owen wilson supposedly loves it there. it's right on the water. i've seen whales right off the shore there. i'm also into shell hunting (not leisurely strolling. i'm talking 5am in the dark with a flashlight hunting. haha) and i found 3 shells each worth $100 there. they're very private and the grounds are beautiful. there are hammocks everywhere. and i had lunch with eddie vedder (well he was at another table...) a few miles down the road at a lunch truck. the down side is that the beach is more of a cove and the current gets very rough and unswimmable there, but you could face that problem all over the north shore.

also, my overall recommendation for hawaii in general is to stay at two hotels if you're going to be there for 2 weeks. i would do one week in a bungalow on one end of an island. and the other week in a really nice hotel on the other end. after we stayed in the ke'iki bungalows, we followed it up with a few nights in the hawaiian hilton waikiki, which is amazing. hawaii really does go from one extreme to another in terms of peace and quiet in a bungalow to hip skyrise hotels. so i wouldn't choose- i'd do both.

FI and i are getting married in Hawaii (Molokai) and then honeymooning on Big Island for a week. I have done so much research it is not even funny!
those huts that you are looking for - they don't have them in Hawaii - they are mostly found in the South Pacific - Fiji, Bora Bora, Maldives, etc

Also, there are not really any AI's in Hawaii, Kona Village on Big Island has a meal plan but that is about where the AI ends (we are staying there for 1/2 of our Honeymoon - it is also very expensive!)

You will find a A LOT of big hotels that are like huge resorts, just not AI's and depending on your budget, you could do amazing B&B's or small, boutique hotel's or even villa rentals.

Do you have a TA? TA Dina specializes in Hawaii and she helped us plan our honeymoon - i suggest PM'ing her!

kauai... no doubt.. such a beautiful island. go there. its not as touristy and more quiet and peaceful and true hawaii

as others have said those hut things aren't really around in Hawaii, but what about renting a small house or condo? Check this website out

Just click on the area you want to go and you can find places for rent anywhere from $60 per night to thousands for bigger houses.

I have been to Maui 4 times and Kona once. Kona seems to be a little more rustic and underdeveloped. Its mostly black volcano rock but has very beautiful beaches. It's not as crowded as the main islands. And there is lots to see, such as a continually flowing volcano!

Maui is great. If you go there you have to travel to the "7 pools" you drive this amazingly beautiful very green road in order to get there and then you hike through a spectacular forrest to 7 different waterfalls.

I mention this because it sounds like you want to get out and see things on the island and there is lots to do in Hawaii.
