Why not consider Chicago We have tons of free festivals in our parks. The lakefront is free. World-class architecture and restaurants. Lakeshore drive from downtown to the No. Shore (from movie 'When Harry met Sally)There is Navy Pier (touristy I know but fun the first time you go) I can't guarantee that it wont be hot, but it's Chicago so if its hot one day it could be beautiful the next.

I like Maine and the Vineyard (not just because I got engaged there) and love Traverse City, MI (got really nice wines there).

What about the islands off of Seattle? I think there are a couple of them, maybe Whidbey is the most popular? I think you can stay at a cute B&B for around $100/night. They could even drive up to Vancouver or something too?

OOH good idea, the San Juan Islands are sooo beautiful, also not far from Vancouver if they want some city life, or Victoria for some old world charm. Also August up here in Seattle is like the epitome of good weather, my birthday is the 15th and as long as I can remember I've had sun on my birthday week.

Lake Tahoe was on top of my list too. I also like Seattle, Portland areas as well. It will be cool in August. Also you can consider Crater Lake Oregon. I heard that Oregon is beautiful and I can't wait to visit there and hike around. Paul originally wanted to take a trip there to propose to me but with his traveling schedule it didn't work out

every place suggested sounds great. I've been passing the ideas on to him.
Do you find plenty of hiking in Austin or nearby? I've really love hiking now that I live in NC, but we'll be moving back to Texas. I'd hope to end up in the Austin area, but I haven't spent much time there.

I actually live outside of Austin right now but love that city and is looking for a job to move back there. We go to Austin pretty much every weekend, there're just so much more to do there. You can go hiking at Greenbelt area and there're other places too. But that's where we go most often to go rock climbing. We've been going w/ friends in the past for outdoor and then indoor ourselves. But we just bought all the gear ourselves and now the weather is perfect we'll be going there pretty much every weekend, so excited!

Martha's Vinyard
Las Vegas
Somewhere in Fl would be nice. How about they do a Carnival Cruise from Galveston You can get them for like less than a 1000.00 and everything is included so they wont be spending any money on entertainment and very little on extra stuff...
I would do a cruise if I was back in Houston!

They are going to Vail, Co

Ha Ha, I'm just like my mom. I went back & reread the suggestions & realized I said the same thing I picked on my mom for saying. I was also talking about Vail, CO in this post!

We seriously are the same person :)

Niagara-On-The-Lake is beautiful, romantic and has great wine areas, theatre, etc. Technically its in Canada but very close to Niagara Falls.
