Can anyone explain this to me? I've always wanted a May wedding, but thats "low season" in St Thomas. Should I be concerned? What does low season even mean?

Betsy is on the right track. Low season usually the prices at resorts are lower, there are defitenly less tourists and cruise ships that anchor in. Even some shops and restaurants close during this period or offer shorter operating hours. Hope this helps! I'm sure a TA can give you a more formal definition, lol!

Exactly! The low & high seasons used to be very distinct and low season typically was for a few months a year (usually based on when families could travel and weather- January, May, September-December excluding holiday time periods) and had some fantastic deals -but as Twinkletoes said- that is also when shops and attractions may close!
Nowadays the low season is quite short as people are willing to pull the kids out of school to travel and take advantage of the better rates. It's also nice to travel during low season as destinations are not so crowded with other tourists!

May is a great time to go to the Caribbean because it "shoulders" the high season. It's the month following high season and before hurricane season. I'd be surprised if lots of shop are closed. I notice many places close in August and September, being that they are the prime hurricane months.
And if it makes you feel any better, take a look at when and where I'm getting married. Next May in St. Lucia. I say go for the May wedding!

Low season can be the best time to go. Now...if you are looking for a big party when you get there - you may not like it. But...if you want less traffic, less crowds, less expense - then you're good!

Thanks for all the help everyone! I am looking to save money so May seems good! I was just concerned that there may be bad weather or something... MY wedding is going to be fairly small... so i think May should be fine!

I asked Angela about it and she said that May is a pretty hot month for weddings even though its low season!
