chicklet I think a number of girls did that combo we thought about and i do not think it sounded weird, I think the bride deserves something special. We are now going with somewhere over the rainbow also and the wedding march. I am going to have to listen to the harp version now.

My FI and his BM want to walk down to the Imperial March from Star Wars. Im a good sport so I allowed it. I have a Mr. and Mrs. Potato head cake topper for goodness sake how could I not go along with it.
That is AWESOME! I bet it made him insanely happy that you would be willing to go along with that!

I know that sounds a bit.. hoosier but I have to say we had SO many people come up to us afterwards saying they thought it was awesome.
But I say you play whatever your heart desires! This is YOUR day and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks! Nothing at all with playing the bridal march!
I have to make sure my FI doesn't see this - that is one of his favourite songs ever, but not one of mine. I would never hear the end!

I really want to use Chris Cornell's "Finally Forever"... it's so perfect. Just haven't decided which song to use it for. Also Otis Redding's "That's How Strong My Love Is". I guess i need to get on figuring out all of the songs and what order!

I am also walking to Over the Rainbow (very islandy) then we will walk back down the isle to Is this Love (Bob Marley) For when we have our sand ceremony/sign the licence I am surprising FH by playing Trapped by Bruce Springsteen (I'm from NJ so a huge fan and it will give everyone a good laugh!)

Great post topic! Check out this site Wedding Songs

A few ideas:

Processional - Family and Wedding Party
Days Like this (Van Morrison)
Perhaps?

Processional - Bride
When You Say Nothing at All - Allison Krauss & Union Station (Instrumental version somewhere out there)
*Sweet and romantic! I love how the lyrics of this song captures the emotions of the bride and groom at first sight when the bride is walking down the aisle.

It's amazing
How you can speak
Right to my heart
Without saying a word,
You can light up the dark
Try as I may
I could never explain
What I hear when
You don't say a thing

The smile on your face
Lets me know
That you need me
There's a truth
In your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says
You'll catch me
Whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all

I'm going to cry... I can't wait to marry my honey! Okay enough mushyness for now! A guitar version:
When You Say Nothing At All - Video

Recessional
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours - Stevie Wonder
I love how upbeat this song is and just seals the deal!

Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows
Another fun song about love! The FI and I love this song because we were good friends who fell in love without realizing it (although everyone else knew)!

Finally, I know many of us are beach brides, but for the forrest/garden autumn brides out there, I think this song is so pretty:

"The End of August" by Yanni. Yes, Yanni. His songs on my iPod were from a friend, I swear :) If you can look past that ridiculous hair, it's a beautiful song!

Hope this helps and good luck!

I am also using Somewhere over the Rainbow for my bridesmaids to walk down to. I am walking down the aisle to Martina McBride's In My Daughters Eyes, it is kinda mine and my mom's song and she is giving me away. I am walking down by myself until I get to her seat and then she is going to stand and take me to Justin. I haven't decided on a recessional song yet...that is a hard one for me.

Ronan Keating has a beautiful version of When You Say Nothing at All!

I also want the bridal march, so i don't think it's weird at all. My fiance has said that we'll be walking back down the aisle to MIA's new song, Paper Planes. LMAO I'm almost up for it just for the shock value!

Okay, so I started scanning through the ceremony music threads searching for a fourth tropical sounding song for our ceremony, and I suddenly became excited by your idea.... Its completely unexpected and would incorporate the groom's taste amoungst all of the girliness of the wedding.
One of my FI's favorites is ACDC... so I'm thinking of having either "You shook me all night" or "TNT" play as our recessional song as a surprise to him. They're both upbeat and would leave a lasting impression (hopefully good)... plus I'm pretty sure it would leave a smile of my groom's face that he was thought of in such a way :)

The rest of the ceremony includes:
Katie Melau "Just like Heaven" - Groom's Entrance
Hans Zimmer "You're So Cool" - MOH & Horse drawn carriage Entrances
Isreal's "Over the Rainbow" - Bride's Procession

LOVE THIS THREAD!

I THINK (not positive yet) we'll do the following:
While people are being seated:
- Beautiful Day U2
-Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Israel's)
BM - possiblly Clocks instrumental (coldplay)
Bride processional- definitely Pachelbel's Canon in D
Recessional- my FI really wants Bittersweet Symphony

I was thinking of using this song!!! I think it's so...ummm...I"m not sure how to describe it...passionate maybe?? Just feels so much from the heart!

I think for our recessional we will play a "newfie" song!! We are both Newfoundlanders & I think a fun, upbeat song from our home province (where most of our guests are coming from!) would be neat!! I think we're going to use Goin' up by Great Big Sea...

Well come gather all around me
There is something you should know
There's no place quite like this place
If we get it on the go

So, pile your boots up in the corner
Hang your jacket from the door
There's thirty people in the kitchen
And there's always room for more

[Chorus:]

Oh-oh-oh, Come on now
Let's lock the world outside
Oh-oh-oh, Come on I tell you now
She's goin' up tonight

Well there'll be music all around you
You should see the way it feels
Come on off we go now
Heel and toe now
To the jigs and reels

'Cause somebody's got a fiddle
And someone else bought a guitar
And we got Bobby on the squeezebox
Grab a chair and mason jar

[Chorus]

Well there'll be smilin', there'll be laughin'
Well that's good enough for me
There'll be dancing all around you
This is where you want to be

So pile your boots up in the corner
Hang your jacket from the door
There's thirty people in the kitchen
And there's always room, yes there's always room

It's basically a song about having a big party!!!

But then we are having our first dance at the base of the gazebo immediately after the ceremony so I don't know how that will transition. Maybe do the recessional, then a mingle/toast and then have the first dance. I guess it doesn't have to be right away.

Any thoughts?? Thanks!! Oh....our wedding song is Steady as we Go by Dave Matthews Band.

I have been looking for a song for the sand ceremony, but after reading this, I will probably need one for the signing of the marriage certificate too, huh? Well, huh. I will have to ask my WC about that. I have been looking for songs for that and also the wedding party entrance (originally thinking "You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor, but I"m not totally in love with that song). Thanks to this thread, I now have some great ideas! As for my entrance, I believe I will walk down to Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel and we'll walk out to something like "How Sweet It Is" by Michael Buble or "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" or "Good Lovin'." Not sure yet... Obviously. :-)
