We got married the day we left. Don't kid yourself even with the free symbolic weddings there are costs associated with it and no one in the DR will refuse a chance to make money. I have not heard of one bride who had a symbolic ceremony in Punta cana who was actually asked for proof that they were married. I think if you arrive after months of planning, wedding dress in hand, guests staying at the resort no one is going to question that you are just trying to get away with a free ceremony for the fun of it. It's not like you can try and pull one over on them my saying you want a symbolic ceremony over the real wedding package, because anyone who does this at the end of the day won't be married since a judge is not involved in the symbolic ceremony.
