Question Symbolic Ceremony??

I am looking to get married at the Majestic Colonial and I just had the WC email me to say that for the 2009 symbolic ceremony that we will need a copy of our marraige certificate to prove that we are legally married. I am just having trouble understanding why they would need to prove that we are legally married when we are just doing a symbolic ceremony? Has anyone else came across this?

Hmm... I have been emailing my TA about ceremony types and we just decided symbolic would work for us as we plan to get married ahead of time. She didnt mention needing the license to do it... but I will email and ask her.

I haven't heard this either. I'm interested in this info too because we were planning to marry legally in the US after our symbolic ceremony in Mexico. My WC knows that we're not going the legal route in Mexico. Sorry, just noticed you're getting married in DR, so things may be different.

Don't worry about it, we were told the same thing and we were never once asked by anyone to see this. Other brides fron the DR have also said the exact same thing as me, so relax you will have no problems.

Well that's good to know because we were only planning on doing it a day or two before we go.

The symbolic ceremony is less expensive than the legal marriage, so that's one reason why.

I would just bring a copy of the marriage license application that you filled out in the US. Although it's obviously not official -- you will at least have something on paper if it is requested. We are doing a symbolic ceremony in the DR as well, but don't anticipate any problems. Our legal paperwork will only be filed a few days prior as well.

They need proof because a lot of people will try to get the less expensive symbolic package (instead of wedding package) without proof that they are actually married. All resorts require this. Ours is making us bring this, too. It's standard protocol.

I've never heard of that with a symbolic ceremony, maybe she's a bit confused.

for all those having a symbolic ceremony in the south....that means you will have a civic ceremony back in your own city...

on your invitations, do you mention that you will have a civic ceremony in your own city or not?
