ugh rebecca so sorry theyre doing this to you. my initial reaction was cut and run and give your business to someone else. the $80 extra pp sounds totally exorbitant to me.

but after reading angelas response i must say she definitely has a point. you dont want people ordering off the full menu anyway because its too hard for the kitchen and no one will be eating at the same time. i dont understand what the extra $80 cost per person is for though. can you explain?

Like Angela said, it is very normal for a resort to have a limited menu for a private function. They aren't doing it to be mean, they're trying to provide better service for a concentrated group of people- having limited selections allows them to serve all the food to a large group in a timely fashion. I don't think you'd be pleased with the results if you had a full meny anyway. Just think, then you can have cute menu cards, etc! lol

And about the adults only section, I personally wouldn't expect them to budge on that one, and, would you really want them to? Part of what you probably enjoy about that resort is it's ambience and fanciness and if they start breaking rules regarding things that contribute to the flow of their resort it wouldn't be as great of a place.

Do I think you're being unreasonable? No. But, I also think the responses by the hotel are very normal and to be expected under the circumstances. Also, in terms of hotel communication- imagine how many brides they are dealing with, and how many questions brides that are getting married in like 2 weeks have. Most of the time, communication significantly improves the closer you get to your wedding. You will have time right now- other people coser to their weddings don't. And, you're getting married in Mexico- things just operate on a little different time scale. Getting used to that idea now will definitely help you be less stressed later :)

Good luck!

Ugh- that is frustrating- so sorry.... I'm also asking the question of what the $80/person is for?!!?
I say if you love the resort- stay with it- let us know what you decide! :)

Hi Ladies: Thanks for your responses. I seriously don't know what I'd do without you. Group therapy has NOTHING on BDW.

I'm not sure what the additional $80 is for - I haven't talked with the WC yet. She simply described it as a "surcharge". There is already a charge for servers and setup, etc. during the meal, so I'm not quite sure.

As far as paring down the menu goes - I'm all in favor of a smaller menu - but the extent they want it pared down is very limited, so if we decide to proceed, we'll probably push back a bit and see if we can expand it a touch.

Just to lighten my mood... they want to serve a soup course. In Mexico in August - and the choices they gave us were a lobster bisque or a consume. I would have seen this point if it were gespacho or something. But somehow the idea of a nice hot soup (even lobster bisque which I LOVE) just cracks me up.

I'm still thinking I want the Paradisus. But I'll wait to talk to our TA and the WC before I commit to anything.

I am so sorry to read about all of the struggles you are going through. It does really seem like this is the location of your dreams. If that is true then I would definitely lay everything out on the table and see what they come back with. I mean $80 pp "surcharge" seems pretty hefty especially when they are already cutting your menu. But if everything else goes your way (sans the kids in the rooms) then go for it. You picked this location to begin with for a reason so if they are willing to somewhat work with you then go for it. It's your day!!
