my invites!

So, I actually finished my invites a long time ago, and even sent them out already, but I figured I'd show them off anyway! These are three leftovers that I have (so not the best of the bunch). They were a DIY project. FI even sandblasted the hearts on all of them! We stamped a "C" into the wax on top of the bottles which you can't see in the pics. We sent them in boxes - when you opened the box there was a message directing the guests to "pull the rope for your message in a bottle" along with our website info. When the guests pulled the rope, it broke the wax seal and the cork popped out with the message attached. We hand delivered most of them and it was so much fun to watch them open them up! Some people even kept them and used them as decorations in their bathrooms! Lots of work, but also lots of fun!

So cute! Love the whole breaking the seal/message bit. And hand delivering them is a great idea, not only do you save a bunch on postage... but you got to see everyone as they opened them!

They are awesome! An original twist on one of my favorite BDW ideas, by adding the wax seal.

I actually started my message in a bottle invites tonight and I was trying to figure out how they would get the message out without dumping the sand- the string is a great idea. Can you tell me how the wax seal works? I saw the wax sticks at hobby lobby tonight but there weren't any directions.

They turned out great!! I hand delivered some of my invites (although they weren't as elaborate as yours!) and it was nice to see some of the reactions, especially after spending so much time on them. I love that some of your guests kept them as decorations... don't lie, you make a trip to the lou just to see your invitations when visiting, don't you?!

TIP: Instead of buying the wax sticks, check out a craft store that has kits for making your own candles. We ended up getting a huge block of wax for almost the same price as a little package of wax sticks. Using crayons would also be an option I guess...it just may be hard to find enough crayons all the same color!

We just melted the wax in a pot over the stove and then took each bottle, turned it upside down and dipped it into the wax. We had to do 2 coats on each one.

Be prepared to ruin one of your pots! We actually spray painted the pot when we were done, added some wicks and turned it into a giant scented candle!
