karma: 2 | Anyone ever Ship OOT items to Mexico???
We think we'll have about 90-100 guests and the OOT gift bag items are adding up size wise. My Wedding Coordinator said I could ship to her but she doesn't think it is "necessarily" safe. I'm worried the items will get caught up in customs. Has anyone had a successful shipment to Mexico? if so, which carrier did you use, DHL, FedEx, USPS? what did you label on the package? any help is appreciated. thanks!

I don't have any personal info. on this but I've read that most ladies on here don't because they are worried about everything getting lost. I saw somewhere that the cost is around $200 for 8 pounds. I may be wrong but I believe that's what I read. Some girls have divided up the items between husbands luggage and Mom's or Dad's or whomever. That may be the best route.

i'm bringing down everything on my own b/c i don't want to worry about it getting lost or stolen. i plan to give some people some items to take down with them. most people only need to check 1 bag under the plane but each individual can check 2 bags, so i can give a few people an extra suitcase or bag to check under the plane. that's my plan...good luck!

karma: 2 | Re: Anyone ever Ship OOT items to Mexico???
After talking to my WC this week, I have decided to go ahead and ship OOT bags and wedding favors to my hotel. I have been having issues getting what I want decorations-wise from the hotel's suppliers, so shipping everything gives me more control of the decorations. Plus. I have about 100 people coming, and there is just too much to bring with us.
My WC told me that the hotel gets packages from FedEx daily, and often from the US. She says the only time a bride has had a problem was when she tried to ship something that didnt clear customs... Mexico has really strict rules about items made in china, textiles, and commercial imports. I am actually planning on putting together a package of parasols and fans (120 pieces total) this weekend to ship by next week. I figure it will be a good test run, and not that expensive because they weigh almost nothing.
I know a lot of girls have advised against this, but I spoke to FedEx and they assured me that the only thing I need to worry about is clearing customs and they also call you once the package hits customs to let you know of any fees, taxes, or problems. I dont know what companies you checked with, but FedEx quoted me 250 for a 50 pound box. If you have a shipping account (wich my FFIL does) the price goes down to 130 for 2 boxes totalling 70 pounds. Also, this doesnt include any potential fees and taxes mexico might charge.
Hope this helps and Ill keep you ladies posted on how it goes!

Let me know how this works out. I am considering sending stuff via FedEx and I am SO scared to do it! We even have someone who works at Fed Ex who can get us a great deal on shipping, but I am SO worried to do this. Keep us posted!

Please keep us posted on how this goes. Also how long it takes to get there.
Unfortunately most of the stuff I have was probably made in China.
