Really Yari? I've never had a problem in DR

That's a pretty crazy story...I can't imagine being in her shoes!

Yes, totally Melissa. When I was there two British tourist were murdered on the beach. Of all the islands in the Caribbean, this was the only one I didn't feel comfortable at all. Maybe it's just me...

I'm so sorry to hear about your beautiful ring. I was at the Majestic Colonial when it first opened and I had nothing but problems at this place. These owners/managers do not care and it goes down to the employees. I will not list all the problems I had, but please, for anyone thinking of going there, DON'T! Happy to go elsewhere, where people care for the safety and well-being of their clients.

HUM... really? Majestic Punta Cana looks like a wonderful hotel ; I wanted to get married there. I was a really close call between there and Dreams Tulum!

But hey, if you had a 25 000 $ ring, you would be getting married elsewhere! That must of been a huge rock !

If you get something stolen, usually you need to prove that it was stolen ! It is her word against the hotel manager. Who says she realy got it stolen? You cannot just accuse someone, you need to prove it unfortunately; otherwise, anyone can say that they got something stolen to get a new one! Prices of insurance would be so high if that was the case!

I that was me, I would of stayed there ! You just do not leave a 25 000$ ring there.

Sometimes, people just say things to get something free in return, or to get attention.

If this is true, didn't she know that you never bring on a trip things that are soooo expensive ? I have my engagement ring on one hand and my eternity wedding band on the other until my wedding day... These were never left in the safe.

She will have some problems with her insurance, I am sure ! They will need some proof it was stolen !

WOW! That is a horrible story. But I'm wondering why in the world would she take it off, especially A) being it costs $25k and B) you just got married (wouldnt you want to keep it on).

Like Tami said, I would NEVER have taken it off. It is very unfortunate that this happened. Great Customer service is already hard to come by, and I can imagine how the language barriers made it even more difficult!

I guess they don't search the employees at the Majestic like at other resorts I've heard mentioned in the DR. If it really was stolen, I'm assuming someone had to know it was in the safe or saw her with it.

I never felt comfortable leaving anything in a safe anyway, this story just justifies my reasoning.

I hope everything works out for her.

Don't anyone stress over safety in Punta Cana. It is no safer or more dangerous than any other island out there.

If this is true (which I hope it's not and my own gut is telling me is very overexaggerated), then she must take some responsibility. Why would anyone travel with such expensive jewelry? If you go snorkeling what are your options 1) leave it in the room 2) take it with you. In either case, that's a big risk I wouldn't want to take.

Theft in hotels happens everywhere. Heck during my last trip the TSA at Philly airport stole my battery charger and a new pack of batteries from my suitcase. But, that's the joy of traveling I guess ;0) Laptops are stolen from corporate/business travelers all the time. So it's not just poor or remote islands.

Don't let this one review ruin your trip or scare you. It happens EVERYWHERE. Mexico, Jamaica, St Thomas, Aruba, Hawaii, cruise ships. Every place has its own horror review (some legit, some not). Just use common sense when you travel and you'll be ok no matter where you go.

And if any of you have a ring worth $25K & are heading out for a DW, I'll give you the number to QVC, order yourself a fake ring for the trip, and leave the real one at home :0)

Very well said!

My wedding is in the DR and I have guests who are concerned about safety there ... but again -- things will happen anywhere. It's up to each of us to take the appropriate steps to ensure our safety and the security of our valuables (and when it comes to valuables ... except for our wedding rings ... anything valuable will be left at home).

OK, I would just like to say that you all have scared the crap out of me!
My ring is well over 25k. Now I'm scared that my insurance won't cover it if it's out of the country. Anyone know Jewelers Mutual's policy on this?

Also, I made a comment about swimming with my ring on. And my fiance said that I wasn't allowed to. He didn't understand why I would take my ring into the salt water and get it dirty. Now, first I laughed at him and told him he's ridiculous... but I can see why people would leave their valuables in the safe. Especially if you are going on an excursion. My ring is pretty obvious... so if I were going on a city tour or something like that, I'd probably feel more safe wearing my "other wedding ring." and leaving my real one in the safe. So maybe that's what she did.
