Couples Swept Away, Negril, Jamaica - Site review

Recommended Posts

Hello Gang!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just got back on Monday from Couples Swept Away, Negril, Jamaica! Hopefully I'll get time to write a full report but I'll touch on the basics here in case anyone is interested!

It was breathtaking- the grounds were incredibly lush, you felt like you were in a rainforest almost. When we first arrived everything was so green but I noticed as the week went on we saw more plants flowering so it was always nice to keep an eye out for blooming flowers as we walked to the beach each morning!

Couples Swept Away is located on one of the nicest stretches of 7 mile beach! Very long and very deep. I loved that the cushions they provide for the chairs doubled as a float in the water. Speaking of the water it was crystal clear and warm ( I have a strong aversion to chilly water :) - so I was thrilled that the ocean was warm!). Lots of room to spread out on the beach and planty of beach chairs no matter what time of day you headed down. The flag service was awesome- I didn't even get a chance to get my flag into the sand before a beach waiter came over to bring me a drink! There were lots of palms to keep you shaded if you wanted plus a large stretch to stay in the sun also. The sand was white and soft and amazingly clean- they rake the entire beach each morning to keep it pristine!

Another thing I loved was in the mornings they bring around melon kabobs to snack on ( I'm not a big breakfast person but I love fruit!) and towards the afternoon they brought around rum snow cones!! I had to try one and it was really good- I'm not a big rum drinker but these were good and refreshing!

Our room was located in the new section of the resort- garden verandah suite. I had heard that these rooms hear quite a bit of road traffic and that is correct. I'd recommend doing an atrium room- these are middle of the property and closer to the beach. The rooms while not luxurious (as in marble bathrooms ect) were still very nice! The balcony was the largest I've seen at any resort thus far and a great place to have a continental breakfast or enjoy a few drinks at night before dinner. While not completely private they still felt romantic!

The rooms even the lowest category (garden) were spacious, the beds kings and very comfortable. The linens were crisp and white-it was a nice contrast with the dark island woods and the white linens and white floor to ceiling curtains that covered the wall length windows and double balcony doors. The large windows behind our bed had louverd slats that we opened every morning and the maid closed for us with turn down service at night :).It had a old world plantation feel to it! Our room had a television & minibar that was stocked daily. The older section does not have tv's nor minibars.

I also toured an atrium room- these are literally tucked into the gardens- the older section atrium rooms are the most private and have a hammock on the balcony but the bathrooms are showing their age a bit (but was spotlessly clean).

Beachfront rooms are steps from the beach! This also means that they are not as private- if you are loking for privacy and a beachfront ask for the second or third floor!

Watersports- incredible! My rotten husband ( and of course I say this in the most loving way- hee hee) woke me at 7:30am every single morning so that he could sign up for diving ( you had to be at the dive hut at 8am to sign up for the next mornings & afternoon dive) he really enjoyed the dives and went 4 out of the 7 days. We also took the hobie cat out twice, went waterskiing, snorkeling, kyaked & took the catameran down the beach where he cliff jumped! I even tried the beginning dive class- went to do the open water and chickened out at about 10 feet- oh well maybe next time! All of this was included!

If you like tennis, working out on vacation, basketball, raquetball and/ or an circuit training Couples Swept Away offers all ofhis at their sports facility across the street. They also have a lap pool and the spa over there.

Food was excellent but expect a long dining experience. The atmosphere is laid back and Couples has purposely set it up where dining is drawn out. Not a big deal but I think you need to expect it or you could get frustrated. I'm sure if you told your waiter that you'd like it quicker they'd comply.

I watched a lot of weddings and meet with the wedding coordinator, Tamika- she's a doll and loves what she does! The weddings we saw were wonderful and everyone had a great time, I spoke to a lot of the brides and their families at the beach bar ! I snapped a few pics but they're not the best as I didn't want to be intrusive. Definately do a late morning or early evening beach wedding as the afternoon was extremely hot !

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask away! I also visited Sandals Negril, Beaches Negril, Riu Tropical, Grand Lido Negril & Point Village. I'll try to figure out how to post photo's!

Yay!! Thank you for your post! We are spending our first week and getting married at RIU Ocho Rios, but for our honeymoon we just booked 4 nights at Couples Swept Away and 3 nights at Rockhouse. It's great to know that we made the right decision...almost makes me wonder if we should have booked the whole second week there for the honeymoonsmile159.gif

Ok just a couple more pics- I have so many but I can't seem to get them any smaller ( if anyone has any ideas how to do that please let me know- I use Adobe Photoshop- and I am not proficient in it at all)

One of the pools- this is where they have the dive class in the morning and then water volleyball in the afternoon.

Albianstar-

Have a fantastic time- I sure did! Don't miss the African drums show (get there early though to get a seat without a post in your way!)- the show was intense! I don't know how they drum like that & for that long!

As soon as you arrive go straight to the conceirge and make your reservations for Feathers and also for the Thai restaurant ( these are the only two that require reservations!) then you can try again for later in the week.

The vendors that they have come in are only there for that day- so if you see something you like grab it! The wood carver guy that comes the night of the Beach party -Friday- has some of the best wood carving work! Also if your planning on getting the entwined palm trees get them from the family that goes there on (if I remember correctly) Wednesday or Thursday. The ones at the gift shop were waaaay more money!

Let us know how you liked it when you come back- also if you wouldn't mind snapping a pic of your room and posting it- I totally forgot!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
