karma: 0 | Bad Experiences at ROR?
Hello Everybody!
I was just on Trip Advisor and now I am a little concerned by all the bad reviews of ROR -- and there seemed to be quite a few. Have any of you been to ROR for a test run? Some of the common comnplaints were bees, bad food, and poor service. Derek and I were in Negril over the summer at another all-inclusive and we had a ball. However, I could see where people could have complained even at that one about bees, bad food, and poor service. My personal feeling is that a trip is what you make of it, but I'm having anxiety nonetheless...
Any thoughts? Any comments from recent ROR brides would be SOOOO appreciated!
Dara

hello! We are getting married at ROR in may and like you i was nervous after reading the whiners on TA. The things that made me relax were things like reading the comments from mo who just got back from her wedding there and having my travel agent give me the email address of someone who also just got back. That bride, the one i met through my TA, LOVED IT! she had no complaints. oh, and another thing, some of the people i work with are from Ocho rios. I know that doesn't mean that the resort is good but they love the area. My FMIL said it best when she said that you will never know until you try it and if something goes wrong, it will make a funny story to tell in the future! Good luck and try to relax! Amanda

I just think of this way. There are always people who nothing goes their way and they complain just to hear themselves speak. I figure I'm doing a destination wedding to avoid the stress and have a vacation. So I'm not gonna let stuff bug me. I'll be there in 6 days and I'll let you know. But I'm sure it'll be fine!!

karma: 4 | Re: Bad Experiences at ROR? A Little More Info on the Riu and Ocho Rios in general
I just had my wedding there in November. Here is a link to a thread I started where I specifically commented on things I read on Trip Advisor and whether I agreed with those complaints or not.
And as for the bees, they were mostly at the pool and beach bars where all the fruity drinks are being made and they seem to sometimes bother the bartenders but I never had a problem with them personally. I guess if you are allergic it would be cause for concern and you should send someone else to fetch your drinks for you.

I went for a wedding in 2006 and had a blast. People can always find something to complain about but I liked it so much I have been researching other riu's as possibilities for my own wedding. I have some pics so if you are interested PM me and I will send them to you.

this is what I always say about the bad reviews, how often have you come home happy from a trip and posted a review, usually when you are all fired up and irritated you will write a review. Also some people can never be happy with anything.

The ROR brides can help you better, but I honeymooned there and it was fabulous. Consider the sources of the bad reviews...like Christine said everyone can't be pleased. I was there for 8 days and can't recall a bee, the food was good and the service was excellent. I was there in June, don't know if that makes a difference. It's really really nice and I say that after having spent the week prior at Dreams which was great...if you go you'll love it.

Thanks everyone -- I'm much more calmed down. I was just so thrown by all those snotty TA remarks b/c there are so many ROR brides on this forum -- we can't all be crazy to have picked getting married there!!
