karma: 11 | Car rental recommendations
Hi, as some of you know, I'm going to Cabo for site visit on November 14 and leaving the 16th. I was thinking with all the places we need to visit it would be best to rent a car. Does anyone know of a good car rental agency with low pricing?
Also, Cain's Ma is flipping out about driving in Mexico, and she thinks we should walk to take a taxi everywhere. Please let me know your thoughts?
Thanks in advance

tammy, i would book here in the states...with your moms discount you should be able to get a really good price.
i think alot of the gals drove...steve drove when we were there and had no probs...they drive fast in mexico but so do i so it didnt really phase me...if will get really expensive to take a taxi everywhere....the bust system is pretty easy to use though especially if all you are doing it going along the corridor.

Thanks Tammy she called a few places tonight and we have a car for Alamo for like $36.00 total to two days. Not bad. I feel bad about giving her a hard time about everything because she is really pushy about paying for everything so far on this site visit. I think I'll be equally pushy and insist on paying for all the food while were there.. But shhhh don't tell anyone I feel bad about her driving me crazy.. :-)

It's easy to drive there. It's hard to get lost as there aren't really any turn-offs except for the streets that connect to the hotels. Very little traffic, too. When you're coming from the airport, you get right on the 1. The worst thing that can happen is you take the turn to San Jose. I know, that sounds scary, but it's not. San Jose is right there. You just get back on the freeway and head for the corridor.
I recommend getting the insurance package once you are there. The cars are pretty beat up and the last thing you want to do is haggle with them when you are turning hte car in and trying to get to your flight.

Driving there isn't really that big of a deal Tammy. I drove the whole week we were there. Just stay in the right lane and let all the speed demons pass you! The scenery is so beautiful that it makes a kinda long drive seem pretty short.

Nicole, I ended up booking with Payless. But the quote I got seems a little high for a weeks rental, insurance & airport pickup. I was quoted $345.00. However Christa advised me that she got two weeks for around $200.00 so I plan on asking her more details after she returns from her HM.

Here's the info I posted on my wedding website for people wanting to rent cars...
* Mexico law requires you to have Mexican proof of liability
insurance. If you get into an accident and you do not have liability insurance, you will go to jail!
* You can purchase liability insurance through the rental agency when you pick up your car. The daily rates usually run $25-35 USD.
* Some credit card companies will provide this coverage in Mexico, but you should check with yours before arriving.
* If you decline the liability insurance, the rental agency will put a $2000 USD "hold" on your credit card until you return the car.
* Most of the major rental car companies have locations at the airport or within a 5 minute shuttle ride.
