karma: 2 | STD question-message in a bottle
Hey girls.. Im trying to figure out what i want to do for my STDs... and I like the message in a bottle idea. I found great websites for all the parts and started adding up the cost, not sure how thats gonna go. the invitations themselves arent too bad... im worried about the shipping
for those of you who have done a message in a bottle, how much did u spend on shipping? i know stamps are up to like 0.41 each already...

I read somewhere that for the glass bottles, it ranges from $1.50 to $2+ per bottle depends on how much sand you put in there. For plastic ones, it is btw $1.20 to $1.50 depending on amount of sand. I am planning on hand delivering most of them (work and friends close by whom we visit quite often).

we did glass bottles as actual invitations, w/ about 1/2 inch of sand. each box needed $2.48 in stamps, which (if my math is correct at 4 am) works out to 6 $.41 stamps and $.02...so we put 7 love stamps on each, for a total of $2.87 per box. here's a link to the thread w/ my pics: message in a bottle invites |

I did message in a bottle STD and I did plastic bottles with corks. I didnt use a box because the post office doesnt require one if they are plastic and sealed. I spent about $1.40 on each invite. It depends alot on how much sad you use. I only did enough to get the idea otherwise I would have spent a fortune.

So Sarah, did you place the address labels directly on the bottles? Did you use white or clear labels? Do you happen to have a pic?

I can't wait to do mine! I too would love to see it with the label.

It definitely depends on if you use glass or plastic, the size of the bottle, and how much sand. We had a large glass bottle, about 1/2" of sand, and a SMALL guestlist (or I probably would've gone a different route). We also shipped priority - which was likely not necessary. Ours were about $5 per box.
