Platinum E-ring...Platinum wedding band???

Recommended Posts

my friend has one platinum & one white gold band. They are even sodered (sp?) together. I think it might make it a little more difficult to maintain. White gold needs rhodium dipping & platinum needs polishing.

update- I learned she gets them both rhodium dipped.

It really depends on what type of ring you are getting. If you can see a lot of the metal on the wedding band, you may want to get platinum. Although white gold and platinum will look very close in color initially, they oxidize differently, with platinum being a bit more gray, and white gold looking either whiter or even golder. I was hoping to be able to get wg, but when I tried on white gold eternity bands, I could tell the difference in color, and it bothered me, so I went the expensive route.

I don't think there are any rules on your wedding band having to match. I have a platinum e-ring and I am planning on getting 2 wedding bands for either side of the ring, potentially platinum with colored stones ... I think if you want to contrast your ring with yellow gold that could look really nice! My advice is to go shopping to see what looks nice with your e-ring... and make sure to try lots of different styles!

my e-ring is platinum and my band is white gold w/ like 7 little, bitty diamonds across the top. I like having them separate...and if you go w/ the different metals I would reccomend it, mostly due to the upkeep issues Morgan mentioned.

But honestly, if you're worried about looks, don't be. Not once has anyone looked at my rings and wondered/guessed that they might be different. Now if you take them off and handle them, the weight is different...but how often will people really be doing that?! ;-)

If you are having diamonds in the wedding band you could probably get away with white gold. You should try them on together, and see if you can see a difference. Platinum will change color after awhile and the white old may look more yellow once it is time to get it dipped so there may be a more noticeable difference at that point. You could always wear your engagement ring on your right hand and the band on the left so it really wouldn't matter since they won't be next to each other.
