So, I finally picked my hotel and am now going to be sending invites out hopefully by end of December or early January. My wedding isn't until Nov 2008. I was wondering what people put on their RSVPs. Did you put a cut off date for people to RSVP by? How far before the wedding? I'm just wondering because i'm sending invitations so far in advance or do you think i should wait on invitations and just send Save the Dates for now. Which I am supposed to be doing this weekend anyway. Let me know what you girls did and any suggestions for me. Thanks a bunch!

Danielle - since you have plenty of time i suggest sending out a simple save the date ASAP (include date, location, website (you could put booking info on the website) if you have one and say at the bottom 'formal invitation to follow'. then send out invites in March or April with all of the booking / travel info and an RSVP or book buy deadline!

Same as above.. many folks didn't rsvp when we sent out invites two months prior to the wedding.. so frustrating but if you send out this early, it's a total excuse not to RSVP because they don't know for sure until they're booked., but Save the Dates are a perfect way to get your guests excited and so they can start booking.

I would send the STDs only. And if you need numbers to start planning ask for a preliminary RSVP on your wedding website or by e-mail or something like that. it's less formal (since most people won't know anyway) but at least you get an idea as to who is coming.

Although, you could end up like me who invited 215 people, asked for a preliminary RSVP and has heard from 10 people. Lovely.

I hear ya, Trish! We sent invites to just under 300, knowing that the majority of them weren't going to come to Jamaica, but we wnated to give anyone the option. We haven't even heard back from most of the wedding party! I had two people from work book. The only 2 people that are booking from work. Other then that, no one. No wedding party, no family, no friend. (Other then our immediate - parents, siblings, etc - they booked in the beginning)
